This is not a joke. I wish it was.

http://variety.com/2016/film/news/space-jam-sequel-lebron-james-justin-lin-1201764478/

Quote:
Justin Lin is in talks to direct “Space Jam 2,” starring LeBron James, for Warner Bros.

The original starred Michael Jordan, who teamed up with the Looney Tunes cast to battle a group of aliens in an epic basketball game.

Lin and Andrew Dodge are penning the script for the film, which Charlie Ebersol is producing.

Though I will say, LeBron has great acting and stunt work chops based on his play in the NBA.

Oh wow I'm so excited to watch a movie featuring LeBron, said nobody ever.

Considering Kobe's popularity in China, I would bet Kobe would make a better blockbuster.

Kobe has never really expressed much interest in being in front of the camera acting wise.

I like it. Keep him away from the basketball court and cheating himself to another title.

Good for him, he was pretty decent in Trainwreck which was probably an audition for this role.

If Lebron is the vehicle that brings some 2d animation back to the big screen, so be it.

Movie will probably be trash anywsy.

As an animation student, I feel you. But who said they were gonna be 2D? CGI Looney Tunes, anyone?

Quote:
JR Smith may have a role in Space Jam 2

Basically as soon as it was announced that LeBron James would be starring in Space Jam 2, the internet went crazy with talk about what NBA players would be joining him in the movie.

According to TMZ, there’s at least one NBA player who the producers are eyeing off for a role – J.R. Smith.

TMZ spoke to JR’s rep, Dan Hazan who said that Space Jam 2’s producers have reached out to him about whether or not he’d be interested in a part in the film. And it seems like LeBron’s Cavaliers team-mate is definitely keen.

“There is mutual interest,” Hazan said to TMZ.

Whilst it’s not confirmed, TMZ said that Smith’s role in the film would more than likely be voicing one of the MonStars characters and that they hope to work out a deal shortly.

“It all depends on the deal.” said Hazan.

A JR Smith MonStar character in the film would be great. If he gets hot – we may even see the MonStars upset the Tune Squad in this sequel.

Expect to see more of LeBron’s Cleveland/Nike La Familia linked to a role in the movie as we get closer to the filming date

The first space jam movie may have been the last time the Looney Tunes were culturally relevant. Certainly has trended down since then.
