90 something from what they said.

weird since Morgan plays in Orlando where the 90's is the norm for most of the year

Possession and shots, but I don't think shots on goal. The commentator said that France usually doesn't like so much possession but the US was confounding them by allowing it. I don't know, but that was the opinion.

I thought Crystal Dunn really stood out on defense today (probably deserves game ball with Rapinoe if they do that is soccer??)...Julie Ertz made some big plays....and Tobin Heath once again seems to be everywhere the ball rolls.

The US defense kept giving them second and third opportunities deep in their territory when they didn't have to. France had their midfielders as a second layer when on the attack and were always close to the pack when we got possession near the eighteen or somewhat beyond, and rather than the US clearing it down field and regrouping (which is exactly what they did leading up to the second goal), they tried to make very fine touch passes to maintain possession on their side of the field. Unfortunately, for the most part, their passing was not crisp today.

I'm not a soccer fan. I watch on occasion but not knowing the rules takes from the interest. A friend from Belize stopped by this morning so I watched some of the match. Megan Rapino, the soccer player who said “I’m not going to the (bleep) White House,” scored the 2 goals by USA.

Yeah, my very first thought after her second goal was thinking here's a big F-You Trump.

OMG, totally! I was absolutely thinking the same thing. Just glad we pulled it out.

Also, we should've been up 3-0. We were not offside on that play. Maybe that's why they didn't even go to VAR on the play where the cross in the 18 hit O'Hara's arm. I would not have given a penalty there as I do not think her arm was in an unnatural position and it was close enough to the ball to where I don't think it could have been avoided. However, I've seen penalties given on plays like that before.

I’m at a convention in New Orleans and didn’t see any of it. I considered France to be the favorites because they were the home team. At this point, we’re the clear favorite, but any of the remaining teams are good enough to beat us on a given day. England has some stars like Ellen White. They’ve shown that they can score on us, which is an issue because we aren’t playing that well on attack.

The rankings:

US
France
Germany
England

Any of those teams will be tough, but I doubt any will be tougher than France.

The US went into a 5-4-1 formation after taking a 2-0 lead. In other words, a defensive formation. And after taking a 1-0 lead so early it’s not surprising that France would have most of the possession, but in the entire first half I think they only had 1 shot on goal despite the possession advantage, and they really struggled to put up much of a threat. Their offense looked more dangerous in the second half though.

If France takes an early 1-0 lead the possession stats probably look different.

Yeah, that is a defensive formation for sure and it worked about as well as a prevent defense works in football--not so much. I believe all of France's shots on goal, and their goal, came with that formation.
