all that is cool but ad is still soft.

AD isn’t soft, he just isn’t a physical big. Neither is Jokic, and I wouldn’t call him soft. Not every big likes to bang in the paint. AD has had injury issues and tries to avoid contact. But despite that, the best way to defend him is to push him out of the paint and hope he shoots 3 pointers. Even being “soft”, he does more damage down low.

He is a good #2. You don’t build around him, you need that alpha to feed him.

You think our defense would be any goouda without him? No AD, and that D would be soft. #Facts

yea hes soft. anyone watching the games can see it.

The dude is the defensive player of the year, challenging every shot he can, battling hard against other bigs for rebounds, etc etc and is playing with a fire and aggression to win. But he's soft? Lol.

Perhaps he has a lower threshold for pain than someone would expect of an athlete but I guess they don't make them all as tough as you.

AD is soft? Wow, people love to whine. Dude is going to win defensive player of the year. Are all his blocks "soft"? His rebounding "soft", his changing shots for the opponent, "soft"

Just because yesterday his shot wasn't falling, he did other things.

Can't believe people complain about one of the top 5 players in the league.

Exactly!

Also on the injury front...dude is playing through pain. Scrub the Lakers daily injury report and you’ll see his dominant right shoulder continuously makes it onto the report if there is no outstanding injury at the moment (ie lower back, finger, etc). FYI he has a history of labrum injuries/pain management.

How is a dude soft when he’s playing through injury/pain?

Btw, like VLF said, I totally agree with him being a #2...and still hoping he can keep improving to a #1. I like @tj24’s idea of him training with KG, Duncan and Sheed.

AD is better on D and a more athletic finisher. They each have their strengths and weaknesses, but overall, they are similar in that they did not see a lot of success being The Man for their teams but seem very well suited being #2 guys next to a championship-level alpha dog.

MUCH better post game. The Lakers should have gave Pau a blank check to help AD develop his post moves the day we traded for him.

I feel like Pau would only disappear for stretches of the game when Kobe was in one of his modes. When AD disappears, it's not from a lack of touches.

Pau Gasol was a 18 point scorer. Anthony Davis is a 28 point scorer. Not a fair comparison at all.

AD is a level above Pau. Pau was never a DPOY level defender and AD is a more versatile scorer and averages 25+ ppg. And I really liked Pau!

Pau was a 18 point scorer. Anthony is a 28 point scorer. No it isn’t .

When Pau was the go to play on his team, it won more than any AD led team.

Pau was crucified for never taking his team pre Lakers out of the first round on Memphis?

I think it's a really bad idea to encourage AD to develop his three point shot. He could be so much better spending time developing his post up where he's much more deadly and the shots are much more reliable.

We're heading down a dangerous road, Frank. Don't ruin AD. AD isn't a white center. Only white European centers could shoot those threes. I can't remember a black big man that could make the three at a decent rate. Whatever happened to the patented Kareem sky hook or the Hakeem up and under? Skilled big man should bring back those lost arts.

AD can do both. Having a 3 opens up things big time.

It's true if you can shoot the three, it opens up your game but for every minute he spends practicing a three, he isn't spending it working on his post up. So it's matter of "do you want to be good at everything or do you want to be really good at just a few things?"

Traditional post game isn’t going to win the math game of 3s.

Sure, if you fail to understand what is being compared. It isn’t ppg.

Yup. Pau was the #2 guy for a champion twice. No way B Scott could've been the 2nd best player for a title team.
