Lol no. James would be a dick to do that. So many people bought 23 and for him to change it and now Davis wears 23. Jerseys are not cheap. Plus be nice to see AD wear a new number. I really hate when players wear 23. That number should be retired in general. I see Davis in 00, 1, or 21

Why should 23 be retired in general? There are plenty of players that contributed to the success of this League at the same level or above MJ. Stop putting this guy on a pedestal.

I’ll take that as sarcasm

Magic and Bird saved this League in the 80s. The Legend of MJ might not have happened if it wasn't for those two guys.

The idea of retiring a number for someone that never played for your franchise is pathetic

The Lakers are bigger than Michael Jordan

Exactly, it's ridiculous. MJ was never above sports. He's not Jackie Robinson. Sorry.

FIBA had a restriction: only number between 4 and 15 allowed

Not 21 hopefully.

I’m old school so would think of Coop every time I look at it.

I never saw the logic in players using the number 23. I feel as if that number should be locked up forever. There is only one 23.

Yeah I don't get it either.

If I was LeBron I definitely wouldn't have worn 23 my entire career. Especially when you're being put in debates as being arguably better than Jordan (Not saying I agree with that) .. Just makes sense to have your own number as it's part of your legacy imo.

No.

LeBron did just fine with 23.

Exactly. I swear, how young are some of y'all? LMAO at the notion of retiring 23 league wide. He's Michael Jordan, a great basketball player who has sold a lot of shoes. He ain't Jackie Robinson.

Too bad I can't take credit for it. Saw it in some obscure article yesterday.

imo the Lakers should have already retired 21. Michael Cooper is unquestionably one of the all-time great Lakers, and the only guy not named Kareem or Magic who played for all 5 of the Lakers 1980's title teams.

It's true his stats aren't commensurate with the other guys whose numbers hang on the wall, but few players outside of those greats have ever worn the Lakers uni with more pride and passion. And not everything is supposed to be about scoring and rebounding stats. Cooper is one of the finest defenders to ever play the sport, just ask any of the great scorers who had to try to score against him.

And if you want to talk about scoring, Cooper was remarkable in that department in one way...he was a cold-blooded deadly shooter in the clutch.

I thought I saw something somewhere that indicated Davis would wear 21. It's not retired by the team so of course he should take it if that's the number he decides he wants.

But the Lakers org should have hung that one in the rafters back when they were still playing at The Forum.

Coop will have his number retired after getting inducted to the HOF
I wonder if the same will happen to D-Fish

Only players to win 5 titles with the Lakers: Magic, Kareem, Coop, Kobe, Fish

That's remarkable IMHO
