The great thing about putting forward hypothetical like this is that you can never lose a debate, because there is no universe in which the hypotheticals exist. You have to give credit where it's due, and what Rob was able to accomplish (including his blunders) in the last 2.5 years is pretty remarkable.

I'm not really interested in winning or losing a debate. It's just a position.

I don't see anything remarkable about what he's done, though I feel confident the Lakers are in pretty good hands with him at the helm without Magic undermining his work.

Sure, but with that logic nobody would deserve credit for anything, since the next guy could have just done the same thing.

MMmm I don't know, I'm not saying he didn't do a good job. Remarkable, exceptional, and other superlatives aren't words I'd use to characterize what he's done. I'm not saying anything other than I believe he was blessed with favorable circumstances.

I want to be clear that I'm not on the bash Rob train, nor have I ever been.

I credit Pelinka for not giving up the Lakers 2026 1st unprotected and a 2025 pick swap. He really showed restraint there.

Great start!! Peeps, I'll be downing a few AFTER we use that capspace to get a MAX player (and I don't mean Demarcus or Kemba or DLo). Until then, its just anticipation.

Behind all of this, there's no denying that many of us here (and many in the media including our very own) seemed to think that Rob Pelinka had messed up big time, or worse, was a rook! For those, I'm happy to serve CROW, especially to the chowderhead a$$ki$$er$

Peace!

Pelina. Rob Pelinka.

Sucka GMs tremble when that name pops up on their cell phones.

I understand you completely dude, and I'm with you.

Nuff respect to Pelinka, but the hyperbole is just pure fandom.

LAL has new meaning for ESPN and other sports media today...

Handing out (L)oss (A)fter (L)oss to the Woj's, Brian Windhorst's, Stephen A's, Rachel Nichol's, Ramona Shelburne's, Bobby Mark's, Chris Mannix's, etc of this world.

Good job, Rob!

Ironically some here were mad we didn't have max cap space in the biggest FA summer... Now we have it but some are still belly aching...
Now Pelinka, Rambii and most importantly LeBron, RP and company need to build a a title contender.

No.

Yes, but only to jerks since there is no ignore function.

You just didn't so I'm not a jerk by your own metrics. Thanks for the compliment, c*mstain.

That’s enough for me

Because the Lakers didn't make the playoffs this past season, Russell could earn a base salary of $20 million with a $3 million unlikely bonus dependent on Los Angeles advancing to the postseason. As long as the team hits that mark, he would get his additional money while the Lakers would still have about $13 million to either go after a center or possibly pursue defensive-minded guard Patrick Beverley.

If no kL. This is best option

You're quoting Eric Pincus.

But I am curious of the term "unlikely" since we will most definitely be very likely to make the playoffs.

Compared to the last six years? This FO is doing great, whether they’re getting help from a star player is irrelevant. I’m sure Kobe and Shaq, did they’re recruiting too when they still played.

Eric Pincus NEVER said it was impossible or that Rob didn't know what he was doing! He was the biggest proponent that it was very possible to do based on variables coming forth. The others...YES!

KCP and Bullock are both early bird free agents with six years of experience. If they take one year deals at the vet minimum this summer from the Lakers then next year they will be full bird free agents who are eligible for up to a 30% max starting salary deal.

So for example if KCP can get a 4 year $40mm deal from team X this year. Lakers can say to him, “hey, we will offer you a 3 year $40mm contract next summer, if you sign for the vet min this summer.” Obviously this situation needs to be handled discreetly, but Lakers FO can and should try to leverage this fact into getting both to agree to take vet min deals.

The thing is that it appears that no matter what the data is, you won’t be convinced. This is the same for many. They conclude, for whatever reason, that Rob is incompetent. And present it with full assurance and superiority. Then, when it becomes evident that Rob is not incompetent, the response is that he was just lucky. So basically, once the stand is made, there is nothing that will convince them otherwise.

So I ask you, or any “Rob is a moron” proponent, what could he have done, above what he has already done, that would change your mind?
