To be honest, the league wasn't "picking" on the Lakers. We all know that Magic thinks his (bleep) doesn't smell. The league knows that everyone tampers, but they have to maintain a semblance of non-tampering outwardly. Guys like Magic are just laughing openly in the face of the NBA and that's why we got fined.
Don't ask, don't tell policy. Keep it under wraps.
It was Pelinka that got the 200,000 dollar fine. Not Magic.
The Pelinka episode was a very clear case of tampering.
He spoke to George's agent when George had a full year left on his contract. The Pacers put in a formal complaint. And the Lakers were fined.
The fines for Magic were more subjective. They were about him making a constant stream of comments about players despite being given warnings to keep his mouth shut and his overall pattern of behavior.
In both cases, I don't think we were not treated differently than other teams. Pelinka's actions would have gotten any team fined. And Magic runs his mouth in a way no other team executive does.
Pelinka was allowed to talk to George’s agent though. He was also the agent of TWO of The Lakers players in Dlo and randle?

Yes, Pelinka was allowed to talk to the agent about DLO and Randle. However, the investigation found that Pelinka expressed interest in acquiring George to the agent. That was the no-no he was fined for.

Because all the small market teams complain to the commissioner about the Lakers
This!
Exactly.
this truly is the right answer. if you go back in history and look at the fines, all the minor ones are laker related. because anytime anything happens involving the lakers that is perceived to be remotely "unfair" will end up with so many complaints (official complaints) to the nba and they have to address it. the worst was obviously the veto. and everyone can go suck on it right now. we should have never experienced 2012-2019

TBH I kinda don't mind it lol,
I think CP3 would been a headcase. _________________
It is pretty obvious everyone is doing it, yet they enforce punishment selectively.
They need to get rid of tampering all together. I can't think of any other industry where you aren't even allowed to talk to employees of another company, and nobody takes it seriously anyways.
This. The NBA's tampering rules are archaic and anti-American.
