I trust this guy a lot more than I trust Kuzma as a 3rd option.

Both are spotty and prone to disappear for a stretch of games

I've been positive about both those guys. Even during bad stretches I just know these guys are vets that will have big moments in the playoffs. Plus DG has quietly been playing very good defense lately, even though his offense has been MIA. Our team defense has been carrying us through this stretch.

Bradley is consistent with his defense, spotty with his offense.
Having said that, he's small, so he doesn't always matchup well against some teams e.g. those that don't rely on a traditional 1.

Yes, Bradley is consistent defensively. His offense sometimes comes and goes.

Kuzma, bit by bit, is becoming the same type of player. His defensive effort, and (to a slightly smaller degree) effectiveness, has vastly improved over the course of the season. I think his offense inconsistency at the moment may be due in part to the energy he's expending on D. I think he'll adapt and his shooting will pick up a little in a few weeks.

With this roster, we’re just going to have to have a 3rd scorer by committee. When you rely on streaky shooting/scorers, that’s all you can hope for us that someone shows out and they all don’t have a poor game. Unfortunately that’s tough to scheme for and plan with in the playoffs.

That being said, as long as these dudes keep giving us consistent defensive efforts, that will further allow Bron & AD to cover most of the offense and keep us in contention during the postseason.

Aiming for a consistent 3rd option to have Bron play more offball next year (and protect his career arc) should be our priority this offseason (aside from locking up AD of course).

The truth is that the way our system is set up, i.e. to consistently feed and run our offense through two players as equally as possible, it doesn't lend itself to having a true 3rd option. Even if a player (like Kuz) is capable of putting up consistent numbers, that is unlikely to happen within the current team dynamic. One of the primary reasons for that is, aside from lack of touches/shot opportunities, is simply that the players cannot get into a comfortable rhythm.

Here are some stats for Kuzma which illustrates this point:

Kuzma (Total): 53 Games, 24.6 MPG, 12.5 PPG (51.9 TS%; 29.9 3pt%), 4.5 RPG, 1.3 APG

Kuzma (Starter): 7 Games, 32.7 MPG, 20.3 PPG (56.0 TS%; 34.1 3pt%), 5.4 RPG, 2.1 APG
Kuzma (Reserve): 46 Games, 23.4 MPG, 11.3 PPG (50.9 TS%, 29.0 3pt%), 4.3 RPG, 1.2 APG

Kuzma (30-39 Min): 7 Games, 34.0 MPG, 22.6 PPG (61.3 TS%, 42.2 3pt%), 6.1 RPG, 1.4 APG
Kuzma (20-29 Min): 36 Games, 25.0 MPG, 12.2 PPG (51.3 TS%; 28.5 3pt%), 4.6 RPG, 1.4 RPG
Kuzma (10-19 Min): 9 Games, 17.6 MPG, 6.3 PPG (38.8 TS%; 17.9 3pt%), 3.1 RPG, 1.0 APG

_____________________________________________________________

Even when capable, players cannot be consistent third options when they aren't given the opportunity to fulfill that role. Unlike a lot of other big trios in the past, this team is more like Shaq/Kobe than prior "big 3" teams in the past, with two top 5 players dominating the ball and everyone else looking to fit in where they can. It makes sense then why different people would, and are required to, step up each game.

That 3rd option was there for the taking. The team needed it and still needs it. Kuzma is just not ready for that kind of role. He worked on his shot all summer but unfortunately it hasn't translated to real games. So as it stands now, we're a big 2. But as long as Kuz stays focused on the defensive end, I think anything he can give on the offensive side is a bonus.

Traditionally it's always been difficult or the 3rd option on Lebron teams. Hard to find a rhythm as a consistent 3rd option when Lebron spreads the ball around so well.

Bradley never got a chance to get his legs (between his injuries last year and this season as well). Take a look at his last 16 games where he is averaging over 11 points while shooting about 45% from 3 (and averaging over 2.5 makes a game). All this while playing FEROCIOUS defense.

I mean, the end of last year in Memphis, wasn't he killing it on offense?

Yes, it’s the developmental team player tryout for the Lakers

Oh no. Is this a Josh Jackson segue?

Avery Bradley NEEDS to be healthy come playoff time

Lou Williams brought the ball up the court once, AB stole it. Pat Bev brought the ball up the court, AB stole it and took it all the way. They never brought the ball up again

Reggie Jackson, Kawhi Leonard ... I can't remember a time with Lou and Pat doing it afterward.

Different playing style. IMO, Kawhi and George are less ball dominant than Lebron and AD, respectively. We also post a lot more than the Clippers do. Our spacing is a lot different too. Those are some reasons, but, also, it isn't just about playing style, but about minutes. You're going to get a lot more shots if you play a lot more minutes.

I know this is the wrong thread but would you rather have one of the guy get more minutes to be that consistent 3rd option? Maybe not Kuz but KCP, start him instead of Green too?

His on ball defense changes games. My only concern is the Scott Fixsters of the world manipulating calls against us if he plays aggressively vs Boston say.

Beverly did the play after Bradley stole it, made a bad pass and turned it over. He can talk about how the matchup wouldn’t bother him but he played poorly.
