Now it's time to move on, lick our wounds and learn some lessons, this wasn't the first time that we got rejected and when you look at all those players that we targeted in the previous 6-7 years, we got rejected a lot, but we somehow ended up with Lebron and AD, definitely the best two players from that group, so maybe there is a reason for optimism going forward, maybe striking out this summer was the best thing that happened, maybe losing battle now is the reason why we are going to win the war in two years. |
Hard to be optimistic given this FO. They've shown they can easily turn a losing battle into multiple ones or even a winning battle a into losing one.
Optimism also requires some reasonable basis. Everything came true against the Lakers in regards to acquiring Max FA's. Nothing they've shown tells me they'll be ready for the 2021 class, especially in a worse position compared to this year.
Of all the people in the FO who played a role in Lebron coming here, it was Magic who had the biggest part. He's no longer here and has done too much damage to his reputation where he won't have the same pull anymore.
Getting AD required all those assets we've collected over the years and then some, so it really isn't some feat.
However, I'm optimistic of AD/Lebron pulling something out their hats and making deep playoff runs on the basis they are superstars. That becomes less likely if the FO keeps focusing on chasing stars they have no shot at obtaining due to their history.
I also feel they're closer to acquiring the right role players to help AD/Lebron than land the 3rd star. |
