Another man down.
Quote:
Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Lionel Hollins was “red-flagged” as a health concern and will not join the team in Orlando for the NBA restart, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
Sources: Lionel Hollins - 66 - was disappointed in not being able to be on the front lines, but understands this is the right decision. This was not an age-related situation.

It’s funny how it’s only the Lakers losing significant personnel from the regular season.
Hollins is basically the defensive coordinator.
Yeah but he’s right in the Prime COVID19 Risk zone in terms of age and demographic. When someone asked yesterday what coaches weren’t going , Vogel didn’t say for sure but in MY mind Lionel Hollins came to mind immediately.

For sure, health is the primary concern. Just meant it in terms of Lakers luck, AB and Hollins were both key contributors to Lakers 49-14 record.

Inconsistent application of the rules?
There is no “rule” being enforced. It’s a choice by the Lakers/Hollins. The Pelicans are making similar choices. It’ll be interesting to see what if anything San Antonio and Houston decide. (I mean they are both Texas teams so... 🤐)

That's good to hear. I think he's been key for us this season.
It’s easy to forget Hollins was the coach of the Grizzlies during their successful grit and grind era with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Lionel Hollins hardly ever missed games in his coaching career, so I'm sure he didn't want to and it was a hard decision for him to make.
Pretty curious to see if they can zoom him directly to the live games on a tablet, phone, or whatever...I'm guessing not, but it would be cool.
Yep, would be a kick to see the world's first surrogate or avatar coach, if can find a host vessel for Lionel.
Maybe the tablet-robot thing Sheldon created (Big Bang fans would know) to still go about his days while staying sheltered due to his many phobias. _________________ MAMBA OUT

Not sure if serious? Because Hollins has more risk factors and doesn't feel like gambling w/ his life.
Popovich is 71 and has had heart surgery which almost caused him to retire. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

The rule is that they are all subject to a doctors examination to get the ok for the bubble. From the article it looks like the doctors and NBA gave him the red flag, not the Lakers.

For any member of the 35-person travel team to get approval to join the bubble at Disney World, they first had to submit a medical evaluation. The evaluation allows the NBA to determine which people would be considered "higher-risk" should they contract COVID-19.

Oh fascinating 🤔. Then that makes no sense. I don’t know anything about D’Antoni but Pop’s health issues are well known. I wonder if it’s because they’re head coaches and he’s an assistant? (It could be considered a competitive disadvantage to lose your head coach right before the Playoffs...) Hmmm... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Age alone doesn't keep someone out of the bubble. Coaches have to fill out an extensive medical questionnaire. Lionel must have had an additional risk factor.

Guess it depends on the context of "high risk". Is it the person's health or the league's product? Nobody wants to say it but if a coach passes away there aren't words.
