Sure, or maybe the FO likes the idea of using him as an off-season shot doctor and in-season consultant, given that a former NBA player like Penberthy brings layers of knowledge that will be useful during the grind of the regular season. If this guy can turn Kuzma into a consistent shooter, it could change the dynamics of the roster. I’ve been a vocal skeptic when it comes to Kuzma, but the fact that he is spending the summer working with a high profile shooting coach is impressive.

I have no idea if he's better than Lethal Shooter or if Lethal Shooter is even as good as his Insta would suggest.

What I like is that we finally have a dedicated shooting coach, who can shoot and who has experience at his job while players can still have access to Lethal Shooter as much as they want.

Why this took so many years and endless clanks is beyond me.

I couldn't imagine a baseball team without a dedicated hitting or pitching coach.

We did have Tracy Murray a few years ago under Byron Scott, but he made no difference

Luke Walton was seriously insecure as hell about hiring competent assistants.

lol this is such a stupid thing to say. Just because you made up some kind of explanation for the shortcomings of his staff doesn't make it true. I don't understand the point of just making stuff up like that.

Hi Luke. How are things in Sacramento?

Lonzo as he tours the Pelicans facilities and passes the empty office labeled "Shooting Coach" : "Is it just me or this office is always empty?"

This. More than anything. Get our team up to 80+ where it should be.

Upping the 3% is icing on the cake. But we will probably lead the league in points in the paint, so being able to convert those and 1s and foul calls at the rim will be huge.

Our FT% is already better this year just based on the new roster.

Rather than stay on another year, Penberthy opted to return to his family in Valencia and a list of clients that includes Fresno State product Paul George, Reggie Jackson, Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, Evan Turner and Ricky Rubio.

I think Penberthy will make AD in to at least a 35% on 5+ attempts per game three point shooter. Giannis will see how AD was able to improve his game with a great shooting coach, which along with us signing Kidd and Kostas, will help in out recruiting efforts for him.

They're also hiring Quinton Crawford as an assistant coach. Sounds like his main job will be Video Coordinator.

WTF still Miles Simon? That nobody sucks

^He ran the team’s draft workouts and is the LV summer league head coach, they couldn't let him go just like that prior to the draft. Maybe sometime down the line

Just sucks that they finally decide that player development personnel are important only after we had 30 rookies pass thru the doors and that shooting personnel are important only after they pick up competent shooters. Guh... Lonzo and Ingram? No shooting coach. Danny Green and Quinn Cook? Shooting coach. True to the Buss kids' tradition of doing everything ass backwards. And experienced coaches after we get experienced players. Or sub-coaches to threaten the higher coaches' positions unlike By and Luke doin whatever the F they wanted w/o the slightest hiccup from Jeanie. It's like Bizarro Basketball Land.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just to add a couple more examples.
Phil wins a couple chips starting Pau and Bynum. We upgrade Bynum into Dwight. We tease Phil with the job. And bring in MDA. Who can't figure out how to play both bigs together.
Then we have MDA. A coach who has never let an offensive PG look bad ... ever. Then we let him go. And draft DLO.
The list goes on and on.

He already has a relationship with AD. Not surprised if he pushed for this.

Didn't they already bring Penberthy in as shooting coach before and it made little to no difference? or was that someone else?

Live the move but people need to be realistic
Improved mechanics takes time for muscle memory, positive reinforcement and good habits like foot placement etc to take root. Earliest see will see real lasting imporovements (as a result of the hire) is early 2020.

This is definitely a good sign, Rubio has Improved his outside shot dramatically, this means there is a good chance he helps Rondo become a reliable shooter.

Eeeesh, not an impressive hire at all.

Mike had a handle of the old style, didn't shoot the three real well in this league due to foot speed and technique, but certainly had good-if-now-outdated 1990's technique of a dribble-takeaway-jumper. How's he going to help whom here ?

Was it not stated that he doesn't try to change people's shots to be like his? He finds a flaw in an individual's shot and tweaks it, instead of having them change their whole approach.

Clicking the links above should provide some insight into that.

Slow your roll man! He's a shooting coach, not a freakin' wizard.
