I know it is unlikely George will settle for just 1 year deal, but I still want to ask about our chances...I would hate to lose a energy player off the bench, |

George is getting old, he's gonna want a longer-term contract. He may take a 3 year 10 million dollar deal over a one year 4 million dollar deal.
I think we try to resign him to a 4 year deal with a team option on the 2nd year (why not, we already screwed the 2007 plan up with Kwame). Is this possible, salary gurus? |

he owes the lakers a decent contract after his previous contract that was over generous to say the least
yet i feel that if we let him become a free agent and he keeps his value high, he's gonna join any team thats gonna over pay him again (which wont be the lakers) _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

I say we just sign him to a two year contract with a third year team option. Give him about 5 mil per. He will suck next year of course, but the year after will be a contract year. |

I wouldn't mind having George for a few more seasons. He's a year younger than Kobe and still has a lot of jump in him. I'm just worried about if the Lakers want to resign him. George did say though that he wishes he was a Laker for Life. Moving and stuff is tiresome and he probably wants to avoid that too. But who knows, some moron will overpay him probably and he may just not be able to turn it down... |

My bad. But that isn't old, few more years like I said.

I only wanted George gone because he was good trade bait. Now that trades can't happen, keeping him is fine. |

I think it's pretty important to resign Devon. He's the only other player on this team that knows the tri. We lose him and we're seriously gonna regret it big time. We already lack depth on this team and it's not that easy just going out and finding a guy to replace him. I think he's playing with a lot of confidence and has stepped up big this year for certain stretches. I haven't seen him make too many bonehead plays and is a nice player off the bench. |

Do you really think he'll get offered that much? I can't see another team offering the mid-level. |

Here's the thing. George may be more valuable as a sign and trade chip then he was as a expiring contract. If we're making a run at KG or Tmac or whatever. |

Did you think Antonio Daniels would? Daniels isn't that special either. |

Daniels had a good season statistically last year and also plays PG--which can net you a good chunk if you're somewhat decent. SF's, on the other hand, are the most abundant position in the NBA. And Devean isn't averaging double figures like AD was. |

George's energy and hustle must account for something... |

It's hard to judge what to do with him because at his worst he can just be a huge black hole, but at his best he can do what he's doing right now with his hustling and his consistent midrange.
With that, you take what you can get. I wouldn't mind keeping him though, not too many people out there that have a full knowledge of the triangle. |

I hope we can keep Devean. If he can stay, he'll definitely mature into a savvy triangle veteran a la Rick Fox and maybe even Robert Horry. Not a star but a clutch guy who gives us good minutes, hustle, defense and can knock down a three. |

Come on people? Has everyone already forgot about the free agent moves this past summer?
Donyell Marshall
Udonis Haslem
Antonio Daniels
Earl Watson
Everyone of these players received 5-year contracts between $5-6.5 million per year. George has championship experience and three rings. DG will get several offers for a 5-year deal. He deserves it, just like D-Fish got his deal. Laker fans should be happy when George gets his money. |

why would teams do that when they can sign him out right? george is a role player, teams will offer him the MLE.
also with a sign and trade, the lakers would want something of value back, so why would teams trade if they could get him for the MLE? |

The Lakers should try to sign DG to one year, maximum two year deal, they can overpay him for that one year, maybe 8 mil for one year, vs 5/year if he goes for a longer contract with another team. If we lose him, then we'll see a lot more of Luke next year and the thought of that makes me ill. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

DG's more valuable to us than other clubs. Put George in a new system, and he will be GUMP again. But some GM will take the plunge anyways... |
