IMO he would have re-signed if that idiot McGee hadn't picked up his player option.

I won't miss his antics...but appreciate his contributions to the team last season.

Best of luck Dwight.

Goodbye.

Thanks to Dwight for helping us win the world championship. He successfully repaired his public image and showed us that maybe he's not quite the diva that many thought he was. He may turn out to be a great inspirational story when it comes to self-help and overcoming a bad reputation.

Having said that, why the F did he tweet earlier today that he was staying with us, only to leave and join Philly instead?

Sad to see him leave on such a bargain deal especially, but I was happy to see his transformation this season. He was a big part of the time and it was crazy to see him turn into a crowd favorite in LA.

Did Lakers mess this up?

Dwight Howard prematurely Tweeted his return to the Los Angeles Lakers and later deleted it after he was under the assumption he had a one-year, $3 million offer on the table, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

Sources within the Lakers are adamant that a formal offer was never made and that it was a "deal concept" as part of their dialogue. Howard thought if he agreed to the "deal concept" that it would be a done deal.

The front office said they had to consult with ownership and seek approval before making an official offer.

Howard waited for nearly an hour without hearing back.

The Philadelphia 76ers were aggressive in pursuing Howard and he decided to sign a one-year, $2.6 million deal.

So word is Dwight thought he had a $3M deal, but the Lakers were saying that's the proposal, but they needed owner sign off before committing... He waited an hour. Must have felt disrespected waiting longer than that?

So lets put this story to the test of reason.

On one side of the equation you have Pelinka and the FO who shockingly built a championship squad from scratch last year, should have earned the best GM award and has been pretty damn good so far this free agency period.

On the other side of the equation we have a self indulgent man-child that has a long history of a bloated ego, histrionics and being a knucklehead with multiple teams.

You can probably guess where my opinion lies, but you make your own choice.

Thank you Dwight for the previous season. You were great and valuable for the team. In my eyes you are ok after (bleep) you did 7 years ago. Good luck. Nothing more to say.

Correct me, but we could’ve kept Dwight by using the vet min while still paying for Trezz?

Players don’t sign til the 22nd right? Dwight could still pull a DeAndre Jordan.

Before passing any judgement, remember that Dwight may not have been the one who backed out of the original proposal

The Lakers could have pulled the offer when they found out Harrell was available for only $9 million.

Thank you for being LeBron’s Tyson Chandler and redeeming yourself, Dwight. Now fly and be free.

He pretty much minded-his-manners when he was here and I thought and hoped he would return.

He played the Joker tough, not sure who besides Davis they can put on him...!

I wish him well...

might be he got impatient after the lakers didnt update him. I'd definitely feel more comfortable with him rather than McGee.

I have a feeling we could still get him back by the playoffs. Philly fans very different than LA Fans and the salary is no problem.

Happy for what he did for us last year, but man, is he an idiot. Signing with Philly looks like a panic move that didnt need to happen.

Man, Dwight really wanted to stay a Laker. He tweeted it and everything and Lakers basically pulled the rug under him

Dwight ghosted us twice now. Just mail him the ring in an envelope. No ceremony for you.

Wish he would've resigned with us, but remember the NBA is a business....he probably didn't want to see his options disappear if the Lakers decided to go elsewhere.

Pretty sure all the vet min contracts around the league were not disappearing.

He just couldn’t help himself. It is called impulse control.

My guess is he screws up the gig in Philly because he won’t get enough mins behind Embid and it will be a blow to his ego.
