Medium rare, you heathens!
By the way, isn't there already a grilling thread where we talked about steak? |

Medium rare rib-eye is my go-to. Salted before cooking it in some butter. |

Rare plus. Which is not an option, but it’s between rare and medium rare. I do this because I love rare and still like medium rare so if I am happy if they go a little over or under. Haha. |

Sous-vide to medium rare for 2 hours.
Sear to finish on grill or hot pan. |

Jules, did you ever hear the philosophy that once a man admits that he's wrong that he is immediately forgiven for all wrongdoings? Have you ever heard that? _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

It has been my experience, unless you are eating at a finer steak or chop house, there is little consistency between these terms. A casual place like Outback it seems that on some days Medium means Medium.....while on others it means Medium Rare or Medium Well. I am not sure about others, but I do not eat at high end steak houses on a weekly basis so I have learned to just go "Medium" and expect somewhere in the range of Medium Rare to Medium Well. I usually will not send back if it is in the range. |

Just looking at the results, I would speculate this is pretty much an all male thread. My experience, not being judgemental here now, is that women like their steaks anywhere from medium to (usually) well done. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

I think this depends on the culture. There are groups that are more likely to want well done and groups that are more likely to want rarer.
In particular, there are dishes from some cultures in which it is normal to eat raw beef and even egg. People of those cultures, IMO, are less likely to want to want their steak burnt to a crisp regardless of their biological sex. |

Oh, and if I am making it at home, I will sous vide to 128F and then reverse sear on a roaring hot cast iron skillet. That’ll get you a slightly rarer medium rare with almost no bands. |

A couple of years ago, I ordered a medium rare steak at a "touristy" place in Maui. What I got was a "f....." bloody mess. Like chewing on fresh meat.
I wonder what their "rare" looks like..
I'm good with a rib eye from Stater Bros, cooked on my Trager....medium to medium rare... |

Simple rule of thumb when ordering in a restaurant is that they will serve it one level below what you ask. If you ask for rare in a restaurant, you're getting it blue in the center. |

Medium rare Rib Eye. I avoid frying. I use a Phillips Air Fryer. Set it to 360 degrees, cook for 8-12 minutes, depending on oz. The air fryer eliminates the use of oils. Very important, get a quality meat. Has anyone tried Omaha Steaks? If so, recommendation. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Outback like any restaurant the food is dependent on the chef. Get a good chef, you get what you order. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
