|
|
This was one of my favorite threads last year and I thought it was fun to come back to it and see who was right and wrong (sadly of course we were pretty much all wrong) Last year I guessed 45. I actually guessed low so I wouldn't be disappointed
So this year Westgate has us pegged at 50 wins (https://www.actionnetwork.com/nba/nba-win-totals-betting-odds-2019-2020)
and Carmelo has us at 46 wins (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-nba-predictions)
I'm gonna start the ball rolling with a prediction of 49 wins.
I'll post a poll below with the exact same choices as last year. Let's see how close we can guess it this year, hopefully it's a better one!
EDIT: For what its worth I don't agree with the last guys poll options when it comes to seeding with the Spurs and OKC likely dropping down and I can't see anybody particularly moving up (Kings maybe, I don't think the Pelicans are gonna have a good year) I think 49 wins probably gets you a 4/5 seed this year |

I think 55 wins gets a 1 or 2 seed
Therefore cannot compute |

Finding the comments on win totals/seeding interesting. At the sake of diverting this thread, I can begin another if more appropriate.
I am curious what the speculation of playoff seeding win spread from #1 to #8?
Last year was a 9 game spread. 57 to 48 wins. Will the playoff seeds be under 10 games again?
For the record, I'm predicting Lakers at 50-52 wins and teetering between 4th/5th seed. With the Western Conference seedings spread under 10 games again. Spread in the 55-45 wins range.
Going to be a hell of a competitive year. Any extended time off by any of marquee players will plummet their team in the standings IMO. |

I went with 53 wins on some earlier poll. I'll stick with that. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

48-51 wins imo. Goal is to just get into the playoffs and that is when having 2 superstars matters most. 4-6 seed after missing the playoffs for 6 straight seasons would be huge. Teams like the Nuggets, Jazz, Rockets, Blazers, and Clippers in the regular season will be better due to their teams being together much longer for years than this Lakers team that just got put together this offseason. However, come playoff team, nobody wants to play this Lakers team as long as both AD & Bron are healthy and will be favored over those teams in a best of 7 series. |

even 50 wins+championship... I think we coast through regular season and this just might be the toughest group of teams in the same conference ever... no super teams but top to bottom theres so many good teams.
But once we get into the playoffs its over as this team is built for the slower pace game of grinding out points in the paint, dominating the boards, getting teams into foul trouble, and plenty of shooters who will hit those kick outs. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

I have to think that finishing the regular season with 50 or more wins this season represents a huge success and a mark of huge progress for the fans and the franchise. If accomplished, it would be tbe first time in nine seasons since the club won more than 45 games !
I think that a win total right around 50 is possible. If the club does not gets a break in terms of the health of both LeBron and Anthony Davis throughout the campaign, fifty wins could be a reach. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”

I picked 48-34 in Lanny’s thread. I must say that the team has looked better than I expected, but my pick was based in part on the assumption that we would have health issues at some point. I’ll stick with my pick for now. |
