FRANKIE V HAD A PRESS CONFERENCE CALL TODAY(Thursday)

Per Oram

On conference call with Lakers beat writers, Frank Vogel just said...
• Coaches and staff were not tested for COVID-19, (🤔) only players, saying "everybody recognized the shortage of tests."
• "Us getting back on the court is not the most important thing for the world right now"

https://twitter.com/billoram/status/1245864292684947462?s=21

Per Goon

Lakers coach Frank Vogel on:
- staying prepared to resume the season
- COVID-19 testing
- where he saw the team coming together in March
- maintaining conditioning
- how he will deal with it if the season is ultimately cancelled

NOPE NOTHING YET

For folks prognosticating that the season will resume soon, even the League doesn’t know yet.

Per Goon

Adam Silver says "everything is on the table" for NBA's return strategy, but when that happens is a question the league can't answer. On the NBA's meeting today, where they agreed to start withholding player salaries as the hiatus continues:

SEASON RE-OPENER - AD WILL PLAY AS WILL EVERYONE ELSE

Per CBS

Lakers' Anthony Davis will start vs. Clippers in team's NBA restart opener after injuring eye in scrimmage

https://twitter.com/cbssportsnba/status/1288981241556094982?s=21

Found what I was looking for...

Per Slater

Anthony Davis is officially a go tonight, per Vogel, rounding out the Lakers starters: LeBron James, Danny Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Davis, JaVale McGee. Lakers were a good defensive team this season, but that unit wasn't: 113.6 rating in 253 minutes. Worth tracking.

DWIGHT KNEE

Per Faigen

Dwight Howard is now being listed as questionable for today's Lakers game with a sore right knee. He was not listed on the report yesterday.

https://twitter.com/hmfaigen/status/1291030895319609345?s=21

Dwight's injury likely changes this calculus, but yesterday Frank Vogel said the plan was still not to sit anyone post clinching the No. 1 spot

DWIGHT OUT

Per McTen

Frank Vogel says Dwight Howard is out today vs. OKC with right knee soreness. He hopes Howard will be available tomorrow vs. HOU.

RONDO NEARING THE BUBBLE

Per Trudell

Vogel said that Rajon Rondo is in Florida now, currently outside the bubble. He believes that will last for 7 days outside the bubble, before 4 days inside the bubble. At that point he could rejoin the team assuming negative testing.

https://twitter.com/lakersreporter/status/1291114141747314689?s=21

That’s unrelated to his actual return to the court, which has not been discussed beyond the original 6-8 week timeline from the point of surgery in July.

https://twitter.com/lakersreporter/status/1291114255249358848?s=21

Per McTen

Frank Vogel says Rondo will begin daily testing today, now that he’s arrived in Florida to rehab. If he returns 7 consecutive negative tests, then he can re-join the bubble with a 4 day quarantine. That would have him back with the team before the start of the playoffs Aug. 17

https://twitter.com/mcten/status/1291115286305878016?s=21

Per Oram

Vogel says Rondo has been in all coaches meetings while he's been gone. "Doesn't matter what time," Vogel said.

LBJ AND AD PLAYING PLAYING

Per Trudell

Vogel said he won’t “overdo” the minutes for LeBron and AD, but they’ll be playing close to their regular minutes to stay in form heading into the postseason. LeBron averages 34 minutes (which is actually a career low), and AD 35.

LEBRON OUT

Per McTen

New story: The Lakers are sitting LeBron James out against the Rockets tonight because of a sore right groin

AND CARUSO IS QUESTIONABLE

Everyone else is “probable”

Per Faigen

The Lakers' injury report is pretty extensive for the first time in the bubble

I think the Lakers are coasting. They have the #1 spot on lock and there isn’t “home field advantage.” They played their sub units longer last game and against the rockets most of their starters may be out. When you look at it through that lens, it makes sense to rest up for the real war.

What bothers me is they were only good in one game really. They need these last few games to get their rotations corrected and play some good ball. This can still be done with minute restrictions and we really don’t need to break our backs to win but I think they are hurting themselves. They’re betting on themselves to figure it out in the playoffs or get up to go from 0 to 100 and I think that’s a recipe for disaster.

OK CARUSO OUT TOO

Per Trudell

Frank Vogel confirmed that LeBron and Caruso are both out tonight. He said LeBron’s been experiencing some soreness in his groin, and they’re being cautious with it.

BILLYMAC WAS RIGHT - WHY JAVALE WAS A DNP-CD YESTERDAY

Per Goon

JaVale McGee is inactive, Lakers say it's a coaching decision.

https://twitter.com/kylegoon/status/1291557409345986563?s=21

JaVale is definitely on the bench. But he's wearing sandals.

https://twitter.com/kylegoon/status/1291558081671901185?s=21

My understanding of the reason JaVale McGee was inactive was that the Lakers would have played Devontae Cacok if they needed another big man. Against the Rockets, they didn't feel like they needed that many centers active and wanted to leave opportunities open for young guys.

KCP OUT NEXT GAME

Late pass edition but you know I’ve been out enjoying my weekend and not obsessing over basketball news. So…

Per Tania G

Frank Vogel says KCP will be out tomorrow due to his ankle. “He’s fine, everything came back clean,” Vogel said, but they’ll hold him out.

LINEUPS

Per Trudell

Vogel said they won’t simulate a playoff rotation tomorrow, that they’re still experimenting with lineups and the rotation.

YOU GET THOSE GOOD VIBRATIONS

Per LakersNation

Frank Vogel said any group spending a lot of time together could lead to tensions rising. And while Lakers are close-knit, Vogel said he's thought about instructing players to take a break from each other, although he hasn't mandated it.

https://twitter.com/lakersnation/status/1292540421982175232?s=21
(in this tweet thread someone posted that a D and LeBron apparently went to dinner together. So clearly whatever issues there are or not between those two )

Per Trudell

JaVale said the Lakers “should be good” once they get everybody back healthy, get the rotation in line, and get the playoffs started. The seeding games have been a lil’ different with guys being out here and there and all the lineups rotating game to game.
