I think our best wins were against the Utah Jazz and the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, both those games had the opponent on the tail end of a back to back.
Obviously our 2 losses are against the Dippers and the Raptors. The silver lining is that those 2 teams are currently looked upon as legit teams, although it was disappointing to lose to a Raptors team that was missing key players.
Looking at the schedule, our most difficult stretch is probably the back to back set @Nuggets and @Jazz on the 3rd and 4th of December.

We've had trouble getting back on defense against teams that fast break. The top 6 teams in fast break scoring are:
1. Raptors
2. Bucks
3. Pelicans
4. Bulls
5. Rockets
6. Suns
It would make sense that we had either tight games with, or lost to the Raptors, Bulls (had to make a huge comeback) and Suns (won late in the game).
If healthy, we might pull a double digit winning streak. But there's bound to be some hiccups. So fun right now |
Also some of these teams have a stretch 5 which I think also makes it difficult for Lakers as it pulls McGee and Dwight out of the paint. Negotiating our interior defense. |
That's gonna be an interesting issue.
Who have we played so far with a stretch 5?
Suns (Baynes)? To a degree Raptors (Gasol) and Charlotte (Zeller)?
Who are the real stretch 5s in the NBA right now? |

Many teams have stretch 5s. They just move a PF up to the C spot, which is fine when you have AD playing PF anyway. The most notable stretch 5s out there are to me are Porzingis, Towns, Horford and Brook Lopez.
Fact is, the Lakers should be favored in almost every game. If the Lakers are motivated and fully healthy, the only excusable losses are to teams like the Rockets, Nuggets, Jazz, Clippers, Bucks, 76ers and, mayyybbbee, Celtics. Other than that, Lakers should win every game. Reality is that doesn't happen though because players mentally check out some nights (trap games) and health isn't ever a guarantee.
I think the most likely range for wins for this team is between 55-60. Anything more or less than that would be surprising. Anything more than 65 or less than 50 would be shocking. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Two games they lost were due in large part to getting outworked. If they don’t bring it then they can lose to anyone. Luckily those were rarities. |

Townes for sure although Minnesota I don’t think is a threat in general for the Lakers
Real issue could be Jokic with the Nuggets not only a stretch 5 but a real good team around him. I actually think the Nuggets look like they give the Lakers the hardest time more so than the Clippers |

Jokic is not a good shooter. Most of the best stretch 5s are on the worst teams. That's why I don't get the obsession over this mythical stretch 5. I don't think it's ever going to be commonplace for 7 footers to be even average from distance. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

But I wondering the fact that he can shoot a 3 at least decently is enough to make the big move out of the paint further.
This is sort of like with Davis where the fact that can shoot a 3 is enough to bring the big out of the paint and open the lane for Lebron. |

Besides KAT I don't know of any centers making more than 1.5 3s game. If I have great rim protectors I'm not having them vacate the paint to guard that, I'll live with that. You'll give up way more layups having your big guard the 3 than you will 3s by just staying in the paint. If guys like Jokic and Embiid are hanging out at the 3 point line instead of the paint they're doing you a favor IMO. It's much more of a gimmick than it is a cheat code. That's just me, I know it's an unpopular opinion. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

We should be 17-2 going into the tough stretch of Dallas, Denver, and Utah.
I doubt we sweep all 3 of those teams. Will be a nice early season test vs 3 contenders. |

18-3 would bring us back to Malone-Payton-Shaq-Kobe-Devean George era |

I remember this. We were mostly playing uptempo with GP at the point when we racked up that record. Then Phil said "alright that's enough" and slowed it down to teach more of the triangle. Payton never really was a good fit after that. Especially after our glue guy, Malone, went down with that knee.
On the other hand, I feel like the way this team is winning games is very sustainable. Emphasis on the defensive end while running the ball through Lebron and sharing the ball (5th in the league in assists/gm). Shooters started the season cold but starting to come around. Our offense isn't even clicking yet. This team has yet to hit its ceiling. Their identity is on the defensive end and I love it. |

Honestly I was not expecting better than 12-6, 11-7 was par for me. New coaching staff, new players, a lot of changes. No Kuzma. Rondo coming back late as well.
But we have managed to start really well, and the funny thing is we are not even playing that well. We are winning a lot on talent and good coaching. Our execution is still not where it should be in a few months.
Schedule will be a lot tougher in December so nice we made this kind of start to give us some cushion. |
