Is it me or is this marketing campaign an exercise in futility? They are trying to make the NBA into a college atmosphere. Last night they showed clips of Foxy and Doug Christy going at it, provided stats like "the Lakers or Kings won the Pacific Division every year between 1999-2004."

Tonight the Lakers a pitted against their same-town, same building little brothers. This has never been much of a rivalry since the Lakers have destroyed the Clipps every year of their existance and now that the Clippers a better, the Lakers are too storied to care.

What next ESPN...Lakers v Celtics matchup? "Delonte West leads the Celtics into Staples Center..." There just isn't anymore great rivalries. Lakers v Heat is as close as you get, and even that was somewhat quenched last time out.

Besides, rivalries are made in the playoffs.
