eaxctly. if he can give us 8 -10 points a game thats perfect
He'd be lucky to give us 8-10 MINUTES a game, look at his bio page, looks like a retiree to me.

You mean the part where he averaged 12 points per game in under 24 minutes of playing time just LAST SEASON?

Delk is a career 9ppg in 21mpg. This season he is only averaging 2ppg but he hasn't gotten the minutes. Mitch should try him out, see if he still has it in him. If he can still contribute around 8ppg, I'd take him without a doubt.

Never know, maybe Mitch DID make a gamble before the deadline.

Maybe the gamble was 1.) making that stab at KG of course, and 2.)
passing on making a smaller move for a vet guard because he caught
wind that Delk would be released.

I agree, he'd be a decent pickup at a cheap price.

I'd still like to see Smush get heavy minutes (if not start) because he
knows the tri a bit now and needs the development time, but ya never
know when Sasha or Smush might go down and leave us deathly thin.

Delk or Penny.

Penny because Phil said they were looking for a backup to Kobe.

Anderson is more of a 2 and same with McKie.

I think Delk is an option - but they might go after Penny too.

re4ee, I think he's just in a horrible situation. Hawks are rebuilding and he doesn't fit into their plans. And they drafted Stoudamire, he basically is like a Delk clone.

The part that would shock me is if the Lakers wanted him, they probably could have locked him up by offering them Slava and a 2nd round pick and/or some cash.

Who knows? Maybe Delk's agent was putting out feelers to see if the Lakers would be interested if he were waived. It certainly works out better for he and his client if Delk can get a second paycheck than if he were traded straight up.

Penny is not ready to play Wolf. He's still rehabbing and it's anyone's guess how long that will take. On top of that, he's probably in terrible shape due to all that inactivity. At least Delk has been working out with the team.

Agreed on Penny's readiness - not to mention I simply have a distaste
for his heart and work-ethic in the latter half of his career (and no, I
don't mean that to knock him for his injuries, I'm talking aside from that).

On top of that, Penny's spewed more than his fair share of slights towards
Kobe. Not sure that helps his cause.

Wait is he injured and that's why he doesn't get any PT? I don't understand why a team wouldn't play him, unless he's injured.

He's injured, but he's missed over 400 games in the last 6 seasons.

So he's been injured ALOT.

And as for why someone might not play him - it would depend on the team.

I'm sure there are teams out there he could get some minutes on if he
gets healthy again - but even then it's sketchy at best.

Over the last couple years he's been a shell of his former self when he's
actually been able to get on the court.

Pretty sure he's done in the NBA, but stranger things have happened.

You guys know what? I think the Lakers have an ethics issue with waiving Slava... Don't you know the time to waive Slava has came and gone a looooonnngggg time ago...

If a reporter were to ask Jax if he had any future plans for Slava, Jackson would first reply by responding with "Who?" I'll bet the Lakers just can't do it to Slava while he is in the condition he is in...

Wow, that would be crazy it usually the other way around, wouldnt Sasha and Luke/Mihm cover on that side of the problem?

yeah i am all for delk he can shoot the 3 and is a pretty good defender. i think he would be a great add at this point. i would love to see him and sprewell come in for the playoff run. getting rid of green and slava. if mitch could get this done he would really win some points in my book. but i do think detriot could be interested or even miami

Not enough time for Delk to learn the triangle? Slava is helping a lot isn't he? What would the Lakers have to lose by adding him and waiving Slava? If they don't want to waive Slava, waive Devin Green, he should have never been kept over Jumaine Jones anyway.

If I were Delk, I'd be looking at the Pistons (unfortunately). Chance to win a ring, and they need a backup guard. True, Delk isn't really a point, but he could still fit nicely into their backup slot.

I saw this on hoopshype...I don't have a link as registration is required...

Although nothing can be done on Detroit's part until the Atlanta Hawks waive him, Tony Delk apprears to be the guy they want. This will be yet another great move on the part of Joe D., who would be adding a veteran who has all the qualities they would want in another guard. He can score, is a pretty decent defender, and definately won't be overwhelmed by being around great players...Michigan Live

This is the type of move good teams (Pistons, Heat, Spurs) make toward the end...LA used to be in the mix like this.

I thought this would be an excellent idea as well when when I heard that he might be released...I think you're right on...if you had a chance to pick up a ring on the cheap, wouldn't you go to the Pistons or the Heat?...Maybe this is something LA might consider this summer...more than likely after the season he will be a free agent and would consider LA...he would definately get some playing time...and would love to get out of the h*** called the ATL...(Even though they be LA...at least we are not them )

I'm on this late, but if Delk wants a chance to play, the Lakers make sense. His biggest weakness (not being a playmaker) is irrelevant in the triangle offense. If he can hit a jumper and move the ball out to Kobe or Lamar, I see no problem with him.
