I also think Kobe and LBJ are fundamentally different players.

Kobe is just a scoring machine looking to go right at a team's defense. Has more of a Jordan style approach to the game. He's looking to kill you by scoring mostly (though he can pass too) and was always a high usage player in his prime.

LBJ is more of a Magic/Jordan hybrid. I feel like his primary instinct is to control a game, and that sops up usage too. So he's trying to control every facet of the game offensively.

Two different approaches for sure and it makes them tough to compare IMO. Kobe v. Jordan is an easier analysis as they are the same archetype of player. But LBJ? Not an easy archetype given his size and playstyle. Maybe a 6'8/9 version of Oscar Robertson?

Exactly
Just different mentalities. Kobe never let up. Came at you in waves until you collapsed under the pressure. Stephen Jackson had a great take on this aspect of Kobe’s mentality that had Shannon Sharpe about to lose it a while back Lol.

But so did LBJ. He happens to do it more in 3.5 quarters consistently. He's like that workhorse RB who just wears you out. In his prime, my goodness. I think Kobe's scoring skills were just more refined. Better footwork and jumper. Those two things were a bit iffy for LBJ in his prime. But for 3.5 quarters, you couldn't find a better workhorse than LBJ who would simply control every facet of the game on both ends of the floor.

I think so, too. And at the same time, would Bron be able to have Pau as his number two and run through the entire West three years in a row?

Don't forget Odom/Bynum. I LOVED that Kobe/Pau/Odom/Bynum/Fisher/Ariza or Artest teams. Really deep.

Well, at the very least he wouldn’t have embarrassed himself the way LeBron did in those 4th quarters vs Dallas. Never have I ever seen anything like that from an all-time great. Inexplicable

What made you think that?.... I feel like Kobe and Wade is a bad fit together. Not sure he has any control with Wade's health also, when he started breaking down when they lost in 2014.

LeBron going bonkers this season, establishing again that he is the top dawg... well well, seen that before, Kobe's 2012 season with injured Nash, not this Dwight and sour Pau after the failed CP3 trade... 28-12, best record in league

My favorite Laker squads of all time. And I didn’t think any team could rival my love for that 3-peat team

I'm not a big Bynum fan. But LO was great for us in those days.

Bynum was instrumental IMO. He allowed that Pau/LO lineup to feast. He would bang with other team's big men, and save wear/tear for Pau.

Yeah, he doesn’t seem to get enough credit on this site for his part in that back to back

We look back and see their playing style now and sure if seems like it's not a good fit. But both are smart players and they would of made it work. Also I feel that Bosh would have monster games with Kobe there instead of Lebron.

Great point about Bosh, whose game was essentially neutered in order to cater to LeBron. Not saying it was a bust in the end. 2 out of 4 ain’t bad.
But your point rings true

But LBJ had Bosh AND Wade. It's not that Bosh wasn't allowed to be a true #2 option; that was Wade.

How does Kobe navigate having Wade and Bosh, or Kyrie and Love? Same way IMO.

Remember when Lebron joined Miami, Wade still wanted to be the main guy in that first year. Would Kobe go for that knowing him? Knowing that alone is a bad fit from the start. To me only reason Wade and Lebron worked because Lebron was a willing passer. Kobe not so much.

People make this complicated. But it's really not that hard.
LBJ is the better regular season player, and Kobe is the better playoff player.

Some might argue. "But LBJ put up crazy stats in the playoffs when he lost". My reply to that is look up Jerry West playoff stats. So did he. But few people put him above Magic. I'm sure some people even have Curry over West.
It's just how the cookie crumbles. Hardware matters.

Kobe was a willing passer. He averaged almost 5 assists per game as a shooting guard. That is a very good mark for that position. He and wade would’ve been on tag team attack mode Lol

I’m curious why you assume that. Is it because Kobe had slipped defensively by that point?

because supporting cast prefer playing with LeBron more than Kobe. this has been well documented. players are all ball watching when Kobe does his thing, cuz they knew he wouldn't pass. Kobe belongs in the era of iso ball. different era, different playing style.

Kobe’s back to back title teams played pretty damn hard for him so I think that “fact” might be overblown somewhat

Not the mention the "cuz they know he wouldn't pass" part. He actually did pass. At least 7346 times during his career.

Weak-minded and lazy players surely disliked want to play with Kobe. But that had nothing to do with his supposed lack of passing. Others seemed to do just fine. They also thrived during their time playing next to Kobe. And a lot of them fell off completely after leaving the Lakers.

Kobe took a team with Adam Morrison to the finals. LOL.

All jokes aside and to be fair to Lebron, I don't think Kobe would have taken the 2018 Cavs to the finals like Lebron did. He was playing out of his mind that year.
