So much length. That Odom/Pau front court was beautiful to watch. They were a finesse team but when Bynum was healthy he brought some muscle and grit. We really missed him against the Celtics. Can't believe it's been over a decade.

For his international contribution? Had he stayed in Memphis prob akin to K.Love staying in Minnesota, good question... are they HOF
Pau was awesome for the us until he quit trying (Shannon Brown with his woman).
Was this ever confirmed? I always wondered what the story was for his perplexing and rather sudden deterioration in form. Can't remember if it was 2011 or 2012 playoffs (edit: it was 2011 vs the Mavs) when he seemed to go straight over a cliff - couldn't make a shot to save his life and seemed like his head was elsewhere.

Pau doesn't deserve to be in the rafters. That should remain for the elite players. Of course, I also believe that Shaq shouldn't be there, nor should he have a statue in front of Staples Center. Pau Gasol was one of the best players at his position for about 6 years. He was also the most skilled bigman in the game for a little while. What he did for the Lakers offense is incredible. He took the Lakers from being a good team to a great team. All because of his skillset in the offense. Even aside from what he did as a Laker, he was a great international player and Memphis' franchise player who took them to the playoffs a few times. Leading a team to the playoffs as a franchise player as a big man is not easy.
Was he a championship #1, no. Clearly not.
Was he a championship #2, a HOF player, a top 10 player in the league for a number of years, and the most skilled big (once Duncan went in decline)? Yes absolutely he was.
His Laker jersey will be up in a few years. Deservedly. Hope Kobe and Phil come that day.

Yes, there are plenty of players in the Hall of Fame a lot less decorated than this man. And yes you take his Euro career into account. Look at Sabonis, Divac, or even Petrovic.
Pau was better than all of them
Pau should have his number retired. He deserves it. especially with how mitch and Co. Jerked him around his last few years as a Laker. Plus this is what Kobe would want, I'd think?
As far as coaching material. He's smart. Dude could have gone to medical school. Does he have the right mindset? Or would he try and be everyone's best friend, like Luke?
This is where Vogel shines. He has the team's respect, but he's not a push over. It's a fine balance between Byron being an A hole and Luke being everyone's BFF.

Do you remember how stoked you were, watching this game? My outlook on the season and next 3-4 years went from ho hum to holy crap, this could be a dynasty. The game itself was exhilarating because Pau seemed to find his groove almost immediately, as you've said.
You guys remember the game before? The announcement of the trade had already happened and Kobe was absolutely doing backflips. The elation on his face during that game was palpable. Dude was running around with his hands apart pretending he was an airplane after every nice play.
