Anthony Davis will take the court at Smoothie King Center on Wednesday for the first time since being traded from the Pelicans to the Lakers this past offseason. He doesn't expect a warm reception.
The six-time All-Star forward left New Orleans on bad terms after derailing the team's 2018-19 season with a trade request. Davis was often booed at home games despite still being a member of the Pelicans, and at one point he became so frustrated that he flipped off a fan as he was leaving the floor following the conclusion of an April game.
*Pelicans host Lakers after offseason trade makeovers
Quote:
The New Orleans Pelicans traded Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason, significantly changing the direction of both franchises.
The Lakers were eager to pair the six-time All-Star with LeBron James and immediately make Los Angeles a championship contender after a six-season absence from the playoffs. So far so good as the Lakers (15-2) have the best record in the NBA.
The Pelicans on the other hand were looking to the future and building around the three players they got from the Lakers -- Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart -- along with a slew of draft choices from L.A.

Classy post by BI. I expect the crowd to be hostile, but cheers to the Laker fans brave enough to show up.
SPOILER ALERT - this looks like a loss until Q3, when the Lakers storm back into the game, and we win a squeaker. LeBron and AD again prove too much talent to handle, KCP continues his elevated game in AB's absence, Caruso and Howard lock them down in the second half.
Let's let Ingram score 50 but win by 20 so everyone is happy
Hell no. He's not a Laker anymore. I hope we can shut him and the rest of the Pels down tonight.
This is a cathartic game for AD. You don't really "leave" your former team until you go back home, get booed, and curb stomp them. I think LBJ and co. will ensure that AD gets that catharsis. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Pelicans may keep it close. They are more talented then their record currently sits. They have also been a tough out even with the multiple lost games. Going to be an interesting team when Williamson returns. Still would not be shocked to see them in the Playoffs.
Lakers should win this one though. Too much at stake for Davis and the rest to have a poor performance. I expect them to be focused and ready to play. Kind of excited to see how BI does against James. All the young players in the league have to earn a passing of the torch moment against the icons. Will this be Ingrams?
You know LeBron and Rondo will do whatever they can to make Davis shine...
100% this. The team is going to uplift AD and make sure they withstand the boos and absolutely crush the Pels. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
