That is awesome man! Congratulations! May your son live with mamba mentality forever!

You can see the impact Kobe had on Rob
He just won a ring there
But even then his thoughts were with his friend

Damn nice video. What I will miss the most about Kobe is the very smart, informative and knowledgeable interviews. Those highlight will always be there, but his voice I will miss the most. I don’t know anybody around today that can talk the way Kobe can. 😔

Not a day goes by where I don't think about Kobe and Gianna. Going further, since he was drafted in 1996, I've been closely following everything he did on and off the court. I became an obsessive fan, and in time, realized why.

A superhero to many, Kobe was flawed. But for those who grew up idolizing him like I did, you appreciated him more because of it. You understood that it takes a special human being to come back and improve on their craft while being scrutinized for things you never did.

For me, that was his greatest trait; overcoming adversity. It's underrated in the world. We go through life assuming we're doing everything right. Then in the blink of an eye, it can all be taken away.

Bean is forever engrained in my heart. He always has been, and will forever be. I've spent decades downloading and watching Kobe highlights. Whether he's on the court, coaching his team, or simply speaking. He was and always will be a force to be reckoned with; a real life Bruce Wayne. The hardest working athlete of all time. A guy who didn't have a 48 inch vertical or MJ sized hands, but maximized his talent by working endlessly harder than everybody else.

His immortal legacy will breath light into our lives for eternity.

From the bottom of my broken heart, thank you Kobe Bean Bryant.

I still can't bring myself to watch 30-minutes of Kobe without my eyes watering. Game footage and highlights maybe, but not interviews with him and about him.

Missing his intellect greatly. He was a very intelligent man and I don't think he gets the recognition he deserves.

I'll never get over this loss. Just can't. It hurts as much today as it did when it happened.

https://www.slamonline.com/the-magazine/shareef-abdur-rahim-on-the-impact-of-the-1996-nba-draft/

Unlike today, where parents can just check social media to follow their kids’ performances at tournaments and camps, it was all just word of mouth back then. And because smartphones weren’t a thing yet, all the campers had to wait in line as they took turns using payphones to call home.

As Abdur-Rahim eagerly awaited his turn, the kid in front of him was taking what felt like forever.

“I remember being behind him and thinking, Come on, man, get off the phone!” he recalls. That kid in front of him, taking forever as he bragged to his parents about the day he just had, would go on to be known worldwide as the Black Mamba. Kobe Bryant.

Abdur-Rahim continues: “And [Kobe] telling, which had to be [his father] ‘Jellybean’ or his mom, [about] the day he had and how excited he was. And at the time it didn’t mean anything. It was just a young kid. It wasn’t Kobe. It was just the kid that’s younger than me on the phone, excited about the day he had. It wasn’t until years later that you start remembering different things…I wanted to call my mom and tell her how I did. It was always interesting because by the time you called home, all the college coaches had already called and updated your parents.

“I didn’t know Kobe going into [ABCD Camp]. I had not heard his name; didn’t know him. I could remember having a good day in camp [though].”

The now-defunct camp, which was held on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Garden State, featured many of the players that year that would eventually make up the historic draft class of 1996—including Kobe and Stephon Marbury, among others.

My best friend went to that game. I couldn't go that day. I remember watching on TV and feeling bad that he went to a blowout at home. Low and behold, the comeback of all comebacks. Sad for the fans who left early under the assumption that the game was over. The lesson here was as clear as day, no matter how bad we're playing, when you got Kobe on your team, the game is never over!

02-03 also happens to be my favorite Kobe season. He was just so good that year. His form, his fade, the athleticism. He had broken out of that "sidekick" shell and really showcased his ability as "the man".

This is a fantastic piece by God Shammgod, former NYC street hoops legend. Some awesome New York stories but there are two fantastic sections about Kobe, both Kobe as a teenage phenom and then Kobe and Gigi later in the piece.
