I think teachers should strike and refuse to go back under current conditions and parents should support them and refuse to send their children back until a safe plan is in place. I guess that's easier said than done, but I would not send my kid back to school in Florida at this point. The teacher's union needs to act now.

I have several friends and family members in the teaching community and administration end of education and they are definitely discussing their options in regards to not returning to the classrooms. And every parent I have talked to is in support of the teachers and students not returning to the classrooms until it is unquestionably safe. My wife and I have already determined that our son will not be returning to the classroom in a month when school resumes, even if it means we have to withdraw him and home school him.

Home schooling is not a option for many. Some don't have the wherewithal, online capability or equipment. My family is loaded with teachers. They're going to home school. My worry is family members in college.

My niece was in an online charter school the past two years and is set to start high school in September. My nephew who will be a senior in the fall did online work 3 days a week and classroom work 2 days a week. There's no reason to rush them back to classrooms in September when they could easily continue online until we know everything is safe. We're lucky here in our progressive city, in a progressive state, because both programs are free and part of the public school system.

As CL said, thank you, LC, for that response and all of that fantastic info.

I don't have kids but I agree with the sentiments above. There's no way I'd feel comfortable sending my child back to school right now.

But if 95% of the population wears a mask in public, that number would drop to 162,808.

I guess people just can't grasp the numbers and what they mean.

That's 45 thousand human beings with lives and families and friends. Could be you, your grandma, your dad, your kid...

If by doing something so simple as wearing a mask out in public you could help save 45,000 PEOPLE potentially why would you not do it? How often do you get a chance to do something so easy and help that many other humans??

Not often
. I'm still amazed at how so many follow Perch Mouth Don. He keeps himself safe by testing, masking and screening everyone who comes close to him. He's a hypocrite. We'll survive this but the loss of life will be horrifying.

Over 55K new COVID-19 cases today in the U.S.

Dr. Peter Hotez: "This is a public health disaster." He says it's more than just cases going up and hospitalizations going up and the worry that there won't be enough ICU beds; it's that healthcare workers are starting to get sick again and are exhausted.

Time has sort of blended together for me. Weeks go by and feel like nothing. Don't know how much more of this I can take.

Just to make everyone feel better about the direction we're taking on covid, Alex Azar said healthcare workers don't get infected with covid because they wear PPE. By the way, he's the secretary of health and human services.

And just to make you feel super safe, the moron tweeted that he disagrees with the CDC and that schools should be all the way open because that's what other countries are doing. Nevermind that those countries are about a million miles ahead of us in terms of containment.

Edit. The moron is the orange one. Completely different moron than the one at HHS

Yesterday, Breitbart had the specious headline: Daily Coronavirus Deaths in U.S. Continue to Plummet as Confirmed Cases Hit Record Levels

This, of course, reflected the July 4th weekend, where many administrative personnel were off work.

Then, later yesterday, we learned that 994 Americans died on Tuesday. So, will we read a headline at Breitbart, or anywhere for that matter, that says: More Americans died yesterday than have died in nearly a month? I kinda doubt it.

Why aren't N95 masks available to everyone? How is this still an issue?

After a 20% decline in new Covid-19 cases the week of June 28 through July 4, Tulsa has suddenly experienced a surge in new cases.

Gee, I wonder why.

Dr Birx recommends Florida and other states spiking go back to phase 1. Meanwhile our Trump hugging Governor is at Phase “Pretend like it isn’t happening” Disney World opens in three days and schools open in less than 30. We’re headed for a absolute disaster here.

We got notification that when our son returns to high school next month, it will be remote learning and will only go to a hybrid system when safety of the kids and teachers can be reasonably assured.

What's a Huron system?

A weird auto-correct. Should be “hybrid”.
