Hospitalizations in LA County have hit an all-time high since the pandemic began. Arizona, Texas, and Florida are getting slammed, and it should be noted that temperatures in Arizona have been well over 100 degrees for at least a couple of weeks, and over 110 for many of those days. Oh, and Trump's Tulsa rally has apparently led to a spike of cases in Tulsa and Oklahoma in general. (I'm sure the protests did not help with the COVID spike in LA County, but more people were wearing masks at protests than at a Trump rally, that's for sure.)
And we're talking about opening up schools? Craziness. I would not be surprised if California goes back into another lockdown within the next 30 days.

The rally was indoor. The protests were outdoor.
Fair enough, but you still can't tell me that hundreds or even thousands of people getting together even outdoors with most people having masks on (and in close proximity to one another) wasn't spreading the disease. It undoubtedly did.

And yet there is no proven correlation between the protests and outbreaks.

You don't prove a correlation -- you just demonstrate one.
Joking aside, I can see many reasons the protests would cause much less spread than the Trump rallies.
* Recirculated air vs. open air
* Inside vs outside (UV)
* I'm not sure whether standing/siting still vs. moving affects it, but it may be a factor.
* The differences in the presence of masks
* The relative COVID precautions taken by a typical protester vs. a typical Trump supporter before, during & after the event
* The probable difference in behaviors between the two groups among people with early or mild symptoms.

One other thing that may or may not be a factor, but seems to me might be. At a rally, you stand/sit in place for the duration. So if you are in proximity to someone who is infected, you and others are near to them for an extended period of time. Where as outside, someone could be carrying the virus and may walk past many more people, but actual transmission is less likely to those individuals. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Damn, we're surging. And not in the way you'd like to surge.
Which is why will not be returning to the state until I absolutely have to, which fortunate won’t be for at least a couple months, and probably much longer than that. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I've heard that it's possible that a coronavirus vaccine won't be fully effective in the sense that you may still get sick, but only have a cold or flu-like symptoms.
If that's how it is, and a vaccine prevents the lower respiratory, vascular and organ failure symptoms and problems, etc. we're seeing, I'd call that a win.
Why wouldn't those of us who get the vaccine then be able to get back to normal life (or close to it)?
The flu happens. When the coronavirus starts spreading more (like it is now), they'll let us know and we can take some precautions.
As LC said a few pages ago, the combo of enough people getting vaccinated along with the immunity of people who aren't vaccinated but had it before may keep the r0 low enough to prevent any huge outbreaks or spread. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers

Dr. Fauci's been airing truth about COVID-19. Trump won't allow him to attend COVID updates. The media is doing a great job of getting his information to the public.
It's great the doctor's not propping Trump up. He's telling the truth. How long will Trump allow that? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Approximately 30% of people getting tested in Miami-Dade County, Florida are testing positive. Way to go DeSantis!
Trump and his traveling coronavirus circus are there today. Wonder how many of his Secret Service advance detail contracted it this time. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman
There's a reason they call it a pandemic and not the flu. Republican governors have failed their people by following Trump off the cliff. I hope they all pay the political price the next time they are on the ballot.
Houston, Texas:
Quote:
Jeremy Wallace @JeremySWallace (Houston Chronicle)
Not to scare everyone, but we've doubled hospitalizations every two weeks since mid-June. We are at 10,000 hospitalizations today with only 10,000 available beds. We literally can't have this double again without doing something to create more beds.
I've got to share this. I spoke to a woman who works at an assisted living center today. She was in tears. They have so many COVID-19 cases, workers are calling in sick and they are receiving instructions on how to preserve bodies because of delays in the morgue from getting them
We just crossed 65,000 cases and the day is not over.
When NY, NJ and other states surged in April, we never even hit 40,000. The virus is out of control and we have ZERO federal leadership- in fact Trump and many Republicans refuse to wear masks. THROW THEM ALL OUT! 116 days.
They asked Trump about the outbreaks today while he was in Florida -- he basically said it's a just a few fires which will be put out quickly and nothing to worry about. They will put out the fires and it will go away. No biggie, nothing to see here.

You are much more decent than myself. I wish far, far worse for them. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
