I thought I remember West wanting somebody else to take over being the logo. Or at least himself not have to be it anymore.

Yeah, I also think that he would agree. However, I also prefer to wait a couple of months to make the decision.

no offense to Jerry West, why da hell he's even the logo? i'm pretty sure being white during that era and can ball a little bit had everything to do with it.

the logo is everywhere. it is a brand. no need to change it.

besides, change it to what? does it make sense business-wise? And then what? should we have changed it after Jordan retired? And then after someone else in 20 years?

I am a big fan of Kobe, huge fan, but there are better ways to honor him.

I'm not a fan of ever changing Jerry West from being the logo of the NBA. HOWEVER, this would be the most apropos change ever since Jerry's story about seeing Kobe workout is legendary and the process to trade for his drafts even more.

I have no problem with this logo change.

Not right now.

Donโ€™t think any major changes should be made while people are still emotional and grieving.

Sure if you like using a real tragedy to force people to do what you want.

I'm indifferent to the idea myself. They've been talking about changing the logo for a few years, but changing West's silhouette to Kobe's silhouette right now feels like being prisoner to the moment.

Personally, I don't think the NBA needs to rush to do something grandiose to honor Kobe. He'll receive plenty of tributes. But if they did, I would be fine with it. I don't think the silhouette on the logo matters all that much.

Yeah, I donโ€™t think we should change anything. Celebrate him, remember him, do tributes, thatโ€™s all great stuff. But changing stuff so soon after a tragedy is a mistake I think.

When are done grieving, then a much better time to make changes.

Yeah, Iโ€™m not on board with this at all. Jerry West is the logo and should always be. I love Kobe and Iโ€™m all for honoring him another way, but not at the expense of an all time NBA legend like West.

Not sure what you mean forcing anyone to do anything.
I just stated I believe Jerry wouldn't say no to OP's statement.

I donโ€™t think of the logo as being Jerry West. Itโ€™s a featureless outline that could be any player and I think that was the intention.

I mean, when you ask someone to do something you want in honor of someone who just died recently, it puts them in a very difficult position.

Thats why I think we should wait a minute before we start making a Kobe Bryant award, changing the logo, etc etc. Letโ€™s heal, then make major business decisions.

Yep. I agree with giving things time.
Making decisions while chalk full of emotions is usually not a good idea.

Yeah. I mean our players are not even capable of playing a basketball game right now. Thats all Iโ€™m saying. Not trying to be cold.

And this is exactly why you don't change the logo so quickly and easily and on a whim.

In 20 years, someone will likely say the same about Kobe. And wonder why Jordan, or Lebron, or some other player isn't the logo.
