BREAKING: NBA changing format for All-Star Game. Scores to be reset to begin second and third quarters, and a target score - with a Kobe Bryant tribute twist - will decide which team wins, all while $500,000 for charity is at stake. AP story here --

Eh?
Kobe probably shaking his head in heaven right now at these changes.
Why couldn't the NBA keep it simple like the each team wears 8 or 24 suggestion mentioned a couple of times. |

So casuals on Twitter won’t understand this, but we know this game is also going to be a test for this format. The NBA ratings are suffering and people are sick of seeing teams for at the end of games foul just to get the ball back. This will eliminate that. |

They were going to do something regardless. Why wouldn't they given the legacy kobe left behind. |

Why not just name the award after him and call it a day? He was a multiple time All Star MVP, THE All Star amongst All Stars.
Name it the Kobe Bryant All Star MVP. _________________ I miss you Kobe. I miss you Gigi. |

Do they not understand how easily 24 pts is gonna be for these all stars? The 4th quarter is gonna last 2 minutes. They'll get booed to hell |

Interesting.
I like the use of the Ice Cube Big 3 format for the 4th quarter where there's no shot clock. The Kobe 24 points is a nice touch, on top of the charities. _________________ 💜💛 🏆 👀 🍖 #18!!! |

Keeping it simpler would have been better. Like maybe an extra bonus point for any one of X number of Kobe moves. Fadeaway baseline jumper, multiple pump fake jumper, pull up in your face 3, any buzz beater. _________________ Clippers are our Daddy. |

At least they're honoring him in some way, so I won't totally hate on these changes.
But damn, he must be shaking his head from above at how convoluted they made it...should of just kept it as a simple, but meaningful, tribute like wearing the #8 and 24 jerseys. And it's great that they're using it as a mechanism to donate to charities, but resetting the shot clock after each quarter is just weird. |

tbh I'm not a fan of this
not like I watch the all star game anyways usually but still
as stated, one team all wearing #8 and the other team all wearing #24 would have been perfect _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way |

Not in love with the format, but this will be the first All-Star Game I watch since Kobe's final one. This one has meaning. |

I'm not knocking them for their effort either. With all the stories about kobe and his dedication to the craft of basketball, however, I'm wondering why in the world did someone in the nba think the best way to honor him is to attach his name to a game mocking traditional NBA/professional basketball rulesets and integrity.
Quarters resetting the score to 0-0, Teams reaching a specific target score? What the heck is this? When was the last time Kobe played in such an NBA game? You know he would be facepalming internally at such changes even if he was still alive. |

You don't think he would appreciate the first all star game in decades where the teams actually compete for more than the last 90 seconds of the game? |

This is an awful idea too, just in a different way. _________________ “Christ did not die to forgive sinners who go on treasuring anything above seeing and savoring God. And people who would be happy in heaven if Christ were not there, will not be there."
