Kobe probably shaking his head in heaven right now at these changes.
Why couldn't the NBA keep it simple like the each team wears 8 or 24 suggestion mentioned a couple of times.
Keeping it simpler would have been better. Like maybe an extra bonus point for any one of X number of Kobe moves. Fadeaway baseline jumper, multiple pump fake jumper, pull up in your face 3, any buzz beater.
This is an awful idea too, just in a different way.
Haha it’s just what I thought of at the time. But I don’t really see how the current solution is Kobe-esque in any way. _________________ Clippers are our Daddy.

At least they did something.
I have not read about the changes.
I am pretty sure some of the players will wear 8 or 24. Or 28 to honor Kobe n Gigi. _________________ Kobe's Top 5 Dunks, 81 points, MJ last gm @Staples

This format is way too gimmicky. I wouldn't be surprised if there's even less interest in this year's All-Star game than usual because of it. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
Why not just name the award after him and call it a day? He was a multiple time All Star MVP, THE All Star amongst All Stars.
Name it the Kobe Bryant All Star MVP.
Sounds good to me.
seriously. this is a really odd thing to do and it's crazy complex to understand for it to have much emotional weight on those who love kobe. just name the award after him, even for this one year only if thats too hard for the nba to commit to in the long run.

I really dont care if the NBA actually does or does not do it in Kobe's honor.
It will be awesome if it does. Kobe will always be my all-star mvp regardless. _________________ Kobe's Top 5 Dunks, 81 points, MJ last gm @Staples

This is silly. Best way to tip your cap to Kobe would be for the players to go out and compete hard. _________________ We pour this booze and we drink this booze because we think it's yummy. YUMMY! So over the tounge and down the throat to party in our tummys.
DOWN THE HOLA BITC*OLA!!!
They are testing the “Elam Ending”. They were probably going to do that anyways, but changed the target score to +24 to honor Kobe at the same time. I know most fans are going to hate changing the NBA rules, but imagine less intentional fouls at the end of games. Less parades to the line.
Of course I’d like to see the NBA do away with the parade to the line to end a game. Is this the right answer? Probably not. Does Kobe still get 60 under the Elam Ending? Who knows.

I agree. When they were thinking of appropriate ways to honor Kobe, I thought naming the actual game and MVP trophy after him would be appropriate. I am not really about taking names off of awards, but I am not aware of the All Star MVP having a name attached....and he was MVP the most times in history if I am not mistaken.

My only problem with this, is that in the Alex Caruso thread, everyone was saying what a joke the All Star event is.
So I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to honor Kobe with something our own fans think is a complete joke. Here’s a sample of the comments from days before the tragedy (names removed).

Honest question…does anyone even care about the all-star game anymore? The game is a joke ...

Who cares? The game is absolute garbage

t isn't a showcase of top talents. It's a party weekend where all the players spend the long weekend getting trashed and then play a garbage game on Sunday. In between you have garbage dunk contests, garbage 3 point contests, a garbage rookie-sophmore game and a garbage skills contest. Does anyone actually watch this crap anymore?

There's something that seems sort of tacky and trivializing about basing charitable contributions on who wins the game... Almost like they're playing God with desperate people. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

all I can say is that is because of the current generation of stars....was not a joke to Kobe especially early in his career when he was calling off Karl Malone to man up Jordan. Maybe interjecting Kobe can serve to remind players to take it a little more serious in honor of Kobe. I am guessing the way it has been played in recent years did not impress Kobe.
