I see the talk about Lakers losing their early bird rights on Boogie for next season. I am not 100% sure but if the Lakers want to use the full MLE next off season then they probably have to be careful with salary. As they would have to stay under the luxury-tax threshold if they use the full MLE.
Paying Boogie 4.2 million after missing a whole year may not have been smart. If KCP opts out then he probably gets a raise. Then things can get dicey with staying under that threshold. If Boogie wants to come back then it probably needs to be for the minimum anyways. Lakers could also use the bi annual exception if they can stay under the luxury-tax threshold, but that is probably better suited for Dwight if he would accept it. |

But alright. |
he could be back next season.... |

Yep
Porzingis was 23 and took 1.5 year
Bigs take even longer.
No way he was going to be ready for anything more than 10-12 minutes at best. And in this case you got a better defender that shoots the 3 better right now who is in NBA shape and can defensively take on Kawhi Giannis etc
I’m totally for this even though I was also wishing Cousins would have a resurgence next season. Still would be open to him returning as a FA next season. |

No way Rob cuts him if they thought there was an ever 10% chance he'd return to the form he was for GS last year... he's simply walk to the Clippers and be the player that puts them over the top. Lakers aren't letting that happen. They know more about his health that anyone. |

Yahoo Sources: DeMarcus Cousins was informed yesterday by the Lakers that he would be waived. He plans to continue rehabbing ACL injury into the offseason.
Bring him back in the offseason please!

wow didnt see this coming. Im not a Cousins fan but wouldnt mind to have kept him in the fold at a CHEAP return price as a player who can be AD's stretch 5 and create some low post offense when Lebron is not in the game _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Of course he did.
AD is also the one who told Rob to sign Troy and they are very close as well. |

Good. Let him hang out, keep rehabbing, and re-sign him to a minimum deal this summer. _________________ Under New Management |

Watching that video of him trying to run the other day ... he looked a long ways off. Hopefully, he can stay with the team and rehab (and AD is cool with this). We can always bring him back in the off-season. |

Yeah, there is obviously a 0% chance he didn't talk to them first.
I actually really like this move as if they released him they knew he would not have done much even in a deep playoff run this season. This was also the tougher choice so it was nice to see Rob go that route and keep Troy as a deep bench shooter but more likely the next guy to get released without going any further down the depth chart as I think Cook and Dudley are nice deep bench situational guys while being great locker room guys.
I really hope we bring Cousins back next season as I fully expect him to be dominant at least offensively once again as long as he can stay healthy.
I had hoped we would pick up 2 new players so we're now half way there. |

Probably didn’t help himself on All the smoke episode when they asked him who the real head coach between Vogel and Kidd he tried to avoid the question by saying “ya trying to get me waived”. I guess he called it first. I thought he should have given Vogel support by saying he is the head coach when I first hear him. |

I think you're making it more of an issue than it is. There's literally nothing there. _________________ Formerly OC Lakerfan |

You might be right but when I heard it, I felt he should’ve supported Vogel. |

I thought it was wiser for cousins to wait until next year. Look at Klay... take your time boggie. Better later than early. |

I think that your chances are way too optimistic, he has a long way to go before he can play. Even then the poor lateral movement he used to have will likely be even more diminished. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Yep. He'd be a walking injury time bomb who would need to shake off rust as well, and you don't really have the time for that in the playoffs.
DC needs to take all the time he has to rehab. |
