The better not cancel it. The hell with next seasons schedule FFS. Do whatever it takes and wait it out however long it takes and finish THIS season.

Build a f*cking stadium and a hotel in the middle of nowhere and have daily testing. Isolate the healthy players and staff until this is over and finish out the damn season!!!!

I can’t believe this (bleep) is happening FML

The difference is, even a winless NCAA team could make the Dance by winning its conference tournament.

The Warriors were already eliminated in every scenario because the teams in contention ahead of them had to play each other. At least one other team out of SA/SAC/NO would have 32+ wins (mathematical certainty), as Memphis had to lose out to not directly eliminate GS, and there is no multi-team tiebreaker to get the Warriors in.

There's something wrong with giving them, or any team with a <1% chance of making it, equal footing with the teams who've clinched/were likely to clinch a playoff spot.

At the very least you'd have to give the "playoff" qualifying teams some advantage, such as forcing the non-playoff team to win two games to advance to the next round (of 16).

Seeds #2-#8 would only need one win vs #9-#15 to advance to the second round (of 16).

Top seeds both get a bye.

Second round could be at least best of 3, best of 5 for semis and 7 for the Finals.

Not sure why the conferences would be mixed together, but they could be. I believe 75% of the owners must approve such a change.

In this stupid format Golden State, a team that lost 77% of its games would still get in and have a shot. And that’s supposed to be fair?

This is nothing like the college basketball tournament. HORRIBLE idea.

No NCAA tournament was played after the season prematurely ending.

So?

Nope you’re wrong again. I just think your idea is so bad that it won’t help the league financially as much as you think it would.

And you think billionaire owners aren’t in great financial shape?

When does the league start next season? The disease will still be here even a year from now. Should the league cancel next season too?

For years people will debate over who would have won in 2020 and we’ll never know. (bleep) that!

If the season gets cancelled it wouldn't be fair for teams that are in the top to not get the best draft picks next year. Otherwise the true winners of this years would be the teams that did worst while the teams that had better records only get penalized without no playoffs and (bleep) picks.

This is a good point. I don’t see corona completely going away for a couple of years if at all. So, are you going to cancel multiple seasons?

People are going to eventually go back to work sometime this summer.

Just delay next season’s start. If they don’t come back by June/July then how are you going to come back in October when this virus will still be around no matter what is done.

Until Woj or Shams reports the season getting canceled then there is still hope because Windhorst isn’t a reliable reporter so keep your fingers crossed.

Just an idea...but what about the league renting out an entire island to finish out the season/post-season? As long as everyone who got on was negative, that would be like the ultimate quarantine/bubble.

Since the situation looks dire and difficult from a logistics standpoint to accommodate many teams in a playoff. Just go straight to the finals since we have few options. Lakers vs Bucks since these are desperate times

Pretty crazy situation for the NBA. If this thing lasts for another 3-4 months, which is the optimistic projection, would they just resume the season in August or September? And what about all the contractual obligations and the 2020 NBA draft? It will be interesting to see what they do.

Not tough at all, the best for him is to take the player option. It will suck for people like BI who won't be able to get a great contract this year.

The owners are in good financial shape, they are smart businessmen. That is why they are currently trying to reduce the payments they make to players. And to the people who rely on extra income working at the arenas. Many have donated to fighting the virus and will get a tax write off as a result. Who hasn’t? The Buss kids. You obviously aren’t paying attention to the financial struggles going on with the NBA. The owners could invoke the clause that invalidates the CBA. That could threaten future seasons as well.

What do the networks do, they have paid for games that they collected no revenue on? Get refunded from the league and reduce next season’s BRI? That would reduce max salaries and limit player movement. The smart move would be to stick to the current schedule and hope that arena workers and fans return.

Theres probably a cutoff date where it doesn't make sense to resume the season if it cuts into the start of the 2020-2021 season.

This is all irrelevant because your idea doesn’t do (bleep) to fix any of this stuff. Nice attempt to try and change the subject though.

That would be hilarious because all that “load management” from Kawhi Leanard would backfire and blow up in his face.

I would prefer more playoff teams but even this solution looks a lot better to me than just ending everything. A season with no champion means everybody ended with disappointment. When even the #1 teams in each conference ends the season feeling a tremendous amount of disappointment, it makes the season feel like a failure.

If everything does get canceled, then the year doesn’t feel like a success to me because we didn’t win it. We don’t even win the West in that scenario. There are kids that grew up in LA today that never saw the Lakers in the Finals.

And yes, every team has a fantastic excuse for not winning if there is no playoff. But not winning is still not winning and it still hurts A LOT when the team is so close. They don’t give out rings to teams that have the best excuses.

Yeah but that's not a real championship. At least in 1999 they had a real playoff schedule. If they have to do that then they should just cancel the season, which is what I think they're going to do because this thing could easily go 2-4 months more with quarantining.
