One of the best young players ever, though the back end of his career didn't quite live up to expectations. He still had a fine career during the '60s dead-ball era. He had 3000 hits and 399 HRs during an era when pitchers dominated. He also had a load of Gold Gloves. He was 85. RIP, Mr. Tiger. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |

Never heard of him before this. Wonder why - quite the impressive resume. Just another of baseball's forgotten greats? I've made genuine attempts to learn about the history of the game but I can honestly say I've never stumbled upon this guy before. Before today, I would have answered "Who is Mr. Tiger?" with a hesitant "Ty Cobb."
Had a huge WS in 1968, helping the Tigers beat the Cards when Gibson was at his absolute peak. Impressive stuff |

Part of it was that he played in Detroit. Part of it was that he played in the dead-ball era of the 1960s, when hitting numbers were low. I don't know. He spent over a decade as a perennial MVP candidate, but even back then he sort of flew under the radar.. I saw him play a couple times late in his career. I guess what you would say is that everyone -- players, coaches, media -- respected him. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |

I was going to mention that he was on the Tiger team that beat my Cards in ‘68. I only caught the tail end of his career but have some of his baseball cards. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Utmost respect to any one who devotes over two decades of their playing career to a single franchise. Mr. Kaline being no exception. RIP to a great sportsman. |

Never saw him play but as a Tigers fan I heard his name enough times during Tigers broadcasts to know he was one of the best this organization has ever had, even after his playing days. |
