This was obviously done when they had 96,000 deaths listed (a month ago) but with more infections being reported it has most likely remained on a lower or similar path, These are real numbers. It's exactly the way we rely on data how the influenza or the seasonal flu kills each year reported by the CDC. if you think there are 0 asymptomatic cases in the US for covid then thats your own belief and I can't help you there.
multiple studies have been done on how a majority of the covid positive cases have been asymptomatic and therefore there many more unreported cases that went undetected. That is why CDC is reporting 35% asymptomatic cases throughout the US population in their study.
As for Florida, I cant say but when death rates and hospitalizations start going up, then its time to panic. it also helps that the NBA league will be in a bubble so thats a little assuring.but I do think they will get some cases with other workers coming in and out of that bubble.
Oh. Ok. You're talking factoring in estimates of unconfirmed cases.
I was talking about confirmed cases.
I wouldn't hold on to that 0.26% number either way though. These articles tell you why. Here are excerpts.

Our ruling: Partly false
But that number lies within a range of estimates. Saying the CDC has "confirmed" that as the death rate paints a misleading picture because the CDC has clearly stated the number is subject to change. For those reasons, we rate this claim PARTLY FALSE.
Several experts said they project the mortality rate is on the higher-end of the CDC’s estimated range, closer to 1%, which is 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.

Our ruling
Facebook posts claim the CDC “confirmed a 0.2% death-rate for COVID19.”
In the end, the post wrongly suggests that health officials have established COVID-19’s true mortality rate and selectively picks the low-end of a range of estimates.
We rate the claim Mostly False.
MOSTLY FALSE – The statement contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression.

Various Other Things I Saw Over The Past Couple of Days
Per Shams
Clippers guard Landry Shamet has tested positive for coronavirus and is unlikely to travel with the team to Orlando this week, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.
Pacers star Victor Oladipo plans to travel with the team to Orlando despite decision to opt out of NBA resumption, per sources. He is joining the team in Orlando.
NBA teams in Orlando will scrimmage against a team in opposite conference or an unlikely first-round playoff opponent in same conference, league tells teams in a memo.
New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach Jeff Bzdelik, 67, won’t be joining the team in Orlando, his agent Warren LeGarie tells ESPN. The organization is supportive of the decision.
The @NBA & @NBPA have come to an agreement on the social justice messages that can be used on the back of jerseys during the NBA re-start in Orlando starting July 30, sources told @TheUndefeated. The list of approved messages and more here in @ESPN:
New ESPN story: Gordon Hayward will leave the bubble, if Boston is still playing, for the birth of his fourth child in September. Story includes details on the procedures in place for a player leaving the bubble for an approved reason:

there is no way to know sure but there have been studies done that concluded that a higher percentage of cases are symptomatic and the CDC does the same studies for the flu when they determine the IFR. although they tweak numbers after 2 years when they have a better idea. So there will be some lag for this.
But there are some studies that were done by chance. this link has a few of them.
Pregnant women in labor: A groups of doctors at the New York–Presbyterian Allen Hospital and Columbia University Irving Medical Center tested 215 women delivering babies between March 22 and April 4, 2020. This is a good random sample, because they were not tested based on symptoms. The result: 33 tested positive, and 29 of those were initially asymptomatic. Three of the initial 29 asymptomatic patients eventually developed symptoms of the virus, which would mean that in total, 79% were asymptomatic.
Meatpacking plants: 412 out of 2,367 workers at Triumph Foods plant in St. Joseph, Missouri, tested positive. All of them were asymptomatic, and there have been zero deaths among those workers so far.
by no means am I implying that this is like the flu, its actually much worse but need to keep things in perspective. for example

Asking again if we can please not bog this thread down with general COVID19/Coronavirus chat as happened to a previous thread. Would really like to keep this thread on topic of League/Lakers preparation for the presumed restart. Thanks kindly

I don't think it's going to happen. Someone will test positive in the bubble, and they can say they have a plan, but there's too many unknowns at that point. The NBA set the standard by being the first to postpone their season, and I think they're going to do it again - Silver will cancel the season.

Read a theory today that the NBA league owners know things will get shut down due to an outbreak. They know it won't work, but if they get their 7 games in per team the TV contracts stay.
There are some older coaches in the league. I keep thinking about what it would be like if somebody actually died with COVID in the bubble. Will they return next season with a jersey patch thinking, sorry but we had to get that TV money.

Dwight Apparently Not Taking Salary During Restart
Per Shams (full statement at link)
Lakers center Dwight Howard tells @TheAthletic @Stadium: “My NBA salary and platform, while in the bubble, will be used to ignite a breath of fresh air into the community.” Full statement:
Prince is the fourth Nets player – including DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie and Wilson Chandler – to opt-out of the league’s restart. Nets are eligible to sign four substitute players. Team departed this evening for Orlando.
Prince was 'declared out' of Orlando because the late-timing of his positive test put his build-up back to basketball in jeopardy; in his case, it is not an 'opt out.'

Nuggets Are Too
Per Ohm
Nuggets GM Calvin Booth says about 3/4 of Nuggets travel party is in Orlando. Booth says the rest will trickle in once negative results come. He says Nikola Jokic is currently not "en route" but Nuggets are working on the logistics and Jokic is feeling good about his situation.
Gentry, 65, has been one of the league staff members undergoing further scrutiny before heading into bubble. Houston coach Mike D'Antoni, 69, is among those still awaiting word, although there's optimism that he'll be cleared too. Rockets leave for Orlando tomorrow.
AD, LB, DG, JR, KCP
all defense... and u got 3 snipers... and AD and LB can shoot 3s as well... wow!
JR? Really? If he plays more than 10 mpg we will be in trouble.
I feel he's a backup in case of injury or sickness; just my O. He'll probably get some burn in the warmup games though. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !
