Yellow cake with chocolate frosting might be the most perfect form of cake there is.

This is arguably the most popular cake variant and so we may have to throw this take out on the grounds that it is not controversial.

I will replace it with this:

Pie>cake

Widespread consumption doesn’t imply that people think it is the best there is. It’s the average ordinary choice to most people. Like Budweiser or a Toyota Camry.

Except Budweiser doesn't make an XSE with a sports suspension and solid 0-60 times.

Does it snap back to your finger once you get it out? You know, you have to be careful not to bust the elastic on those.

The consumer is so easily manipulated by commercials and ad agencies.

I try not to buy anything I see in a commercial, unlike when I was younger (teens and twenties).

There is nothing better than what you describe. So much and moist deliciousness.

So true, and it never ceases to amaze me how smart, educated people are still so swayed by commercials and ad agencies. I can't remember the last time I wanted to see a movie because of its ads (maybe never).

On top of that, here's a controversial opinion: corporations are the most powerful entity we have in our nation. Obviously not all of them are evil or do immoral things, but they are soulless entities that exist merely to make their owners and shareholders money. There is nothing inherently altruistic about corporations; they're simply machines made of (mostly) dispensable people, systems and procedures.

I don't disagree with anything you just said.

But I still do feel like the NBA went too far. The ratio of offense to defense. Acting vs. playing through contact. It's out of whack.

I think our defense, physicality, and athleticism helped us stand apart from international players and teams in the Olympics. Now I think that identity is getting lost because the league chose to purposely devalue those things to too far of a degree.

I have to agree. They "protect" the shooter way to much. My pet peeves.

1) No verticality on the perimeter. Instead it's automatic freethrows.
2) Initiating contact is never called an offensive foul. It's only a charge if the defender can provide last months utility bill proving he has been there the whole time.
3) The three step "gather" before making a move.
4) Shooters entitled to 3 feet of clear space in all directions from where they jump.

Ja averaged 30 in his first Playoff run, Trae averaged 29/10, Tatum just averaged 30 against a Superteam

40 Point Games are the new 30 Point Games at this point. Unless there are rule changes to restore the balance in the League & allow teams to play defense again then expect this to continue.

There's no defense in the League anymore, even in a Playoff setting. Nets, Jazz & Sixers all shattered PPG records in their respective series. We have 10+ players averaging 29 PPG+ in the Postseason which used to be unthinkable only a couple of years ago.

Corporations are not there to serve shareholders, unless you're specifying institutional or private interests that own controlling or near-controlling blocks of voting stock. The chief constituency that a large corporation serves is its own senior management. Senior management, and in particular the Chairman, CEO and CFO cherry pick who sits on the board. This ensures a lack of accountability when management screws up or self-serves via rent seeking behavior.

Americans take a naive pride in many of the largest corporations being either domiciled here, or at least listed on the NYSE or NASDAQ, and many of those corporations pay little or no taxes via accounting gimmickry, reap the advantages of the large domestic consumer market, hold an unhealthy amount of political power, and at the drop of the hat close domestic operations in favor of offshoring or nearshoring.

Not really the same. It can be used as endearingly, or mockingly, but it's never really used casually as just a throw out word.
