This is a sensitive controversial issue. I'm all for trans equality. I have some reservations when it comes to physical competition. IMO a man transing to a woman has an advantage when a sport involves strength. There are other areas that are murky.

JK is extremely transphobic and has been for quite a while. If this thread goes south I will lock or merge to politics.

She said the new legislation "is wide open to abuse by activists who wish to silence those of us speaking out about the dangers of eliminating women's and girls' single-sex spaces, the nonsense made of crime data if violent and sexual assaults committed by men are recorded as female crimes, the grotesque unfairness of allowing males to compete in female sports, the injustice of women's jobs, honours and opportunities being taken by trans-identified men, and the reality and immutability of biological sex".

What all trans bigots have in common. Is they don't internalize how difficult it is to make that transition.

Nobody transitions so they can play sports against a certain sex, use a certain bathroom, commit violent and sexual assaults, or manipulate hiring practices.

People transition despite the bigotry they know they will face.

And if not misnaming someone is too much work. If treating people the way you'd want to be treated is too much work. If just being a decent person is too much work. JK Rowling can go to hell.

The fact that she's working backwards from "trans rights are wrong". Using scenarios that don't exist. Tells you everything you need to know.

The entire Harry Potter cast has basically disowned her.

She wrote an entire series of books about muggles and wizards being treated differently and the evils of prejudice run amok in the form of monster Voldemort. And yet, here she is with her own ugly prejudice on full display which she wears as a badge of honor. And not one bit of shame or self-awareness, only hypocrisy. Truly disgraceful.

That's an interesting question. Personally, I believe it's important to separate the artist from their art. While J.K. Rowling's comments may be disappointing to some, it doesn't necessarily diminish the value of her literary contributions. Art is often a reflection of the human experience, and it's not uncommon for artists to hold differing viewpoints. However, it does raise questions about how much we should allow an artist's personal beliefs to influence our interpretation of their work soap 2 day. Ultimately, I think it's up to each individual to decide how they engage with art in light of the creator's opinions.

I knew there was a reason I never read any of the books, or watched any of the movies. Sure, I don't like child actors, and reading anything longer than a box score is difficult. But I feel validated now, she hasn't really had a good take on this whole thing so far. There are good conversations to be had about some trans topics, but not whether or not they should be protected, this is just a non starter for me. It really is sad that she has lost the plot, and I haven't felt she has any understanding or empathy here.

Yeah, this has been so utterly disappointing and hurtful from Rowling. Her heart's not in the right place here with any questions, she's just being hateful. It sucks.
