Looks good on paper but hopefully Lebron and AD wouldn’t be too gassed covering up Melo’s mistakes on defense. Or maybe Melo would of played more inspired but I’m doubtful.

Some of y’all are acting like a bunch of Mitch Kupchak’s following Melo to his car after being shutdown in the pitch meeting.
Right now the Blazers as a whole are on Fire sure and Skinny Melo is playing well. But still doesn’t erase his horrible defense the guy can’t stay in front of anybody.
Melo is forced to play #3 option.
No wonder why he looks better.
An imagine him here playing #4 or #5 option not sure he would rise to occasion like what he’s doing in Portland. His ego probably wouldn’t let him. Especially like Yin was talking about coming off the bench. Not sure he would be as effective.

I'm just waiting until he gets picked on defense in PnR situations. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Melo has actually been playing pretty good defense in the restart. Portland Trail Blazers have the #1 seed in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.
Melo is LBJ's boy. You don't think LBJ wanted him?
It was Melo's desire to start. Portland said they would let him. How do you go from not playing basically a season to starting in your first game back? That was what Portland offered.
It's crying about something that was never there for us to begin with.
Not true. Melo made it clear he would take any position, he just wanted to play. He and his agent confirmed this numerous times. Lakers never called. Stop trying to rewrite history.
The reason he was able to step in and start in Portland was due to injuries. Specifically to Hood and Collins making Portland make modifications to lineup.
Did he prefer starting, of course because he wants to play and get decent contract for next year. But it was not a requirement and not something he was requesting. Not sure why people try to rewrite history constantly when the facts are readily available to anyone that followed along
Bingo. Beggars can't be choosers so Melo was in no position to demand a starting role. He just wanted a real opportunity to prove he could still play and wanted to do it with Lebron & Lakers (proof posted below). Just another sad case of yinoma making up a fake stuff so he can make excuses for being wrong about Melo.
I said if he was willing to take a bench role, sure.
He took an offer from a team willing to start him. Good for him.
Your singular focus on him, on a Lakers messageboard is really confounding. Plenty of other players we could have focused on but didn't. We move, and you need to as well.
Without Melo we are #1 in the West.
With Melo, we get #1 in the West. So what's the big loss?
Without a doubt not getting Mo Harkless/Darren Collison was a bigger loss than Melo to me. Those are genuine areas of need.
I mean, Melo is #318 on ESPN's NBA Real Plus-Minus - 2019-20.
Yeah, #1 that is in real danger of losing to #8 that barely made the playoffs thanks to a player you thought was washed-up and not worth even a look keeps hitting clutch shot after clutch shot. Without Melo, Portland doesn't sneak into the playoffs and the Lakers are having a much easier time with Memphis.
Like I said, +/- is the most worthless stat in basketball. Do you think Portland regrets signing Melo? He's the 3rd scorer the Lakers desperately needed to win a championship and they could've had him for a no-risk non-guaranteed contract. Again, no team offered Melo a starting role, he only ended up being one due to injuries, so you can stop trying to push your fake revisionist history over and over again cause no one's buying it.
The point is no one cares. Take this strange Melo obsession elsewhere. You sound like the Lakers lost the series. Good lord.
Yeah, 4 pages for someone who is washed-up and no one cares about. And anytime anyone mentions Melo's name, you always show up to respond with your usual nonsense about how he demanded a starting role and the same worthless stat. Talk about OCD. Only stat Portland cares about is how many games Melo has won with his clutch shots.
Lakers odds to win the series plummeted from -550 to -180 so obviously I'm not the only one concerned about this matchup.
I love watching Melo's game.....in his prime. Nowadays with him, I feel he is washed to the point of either being on a game by game basis, a small positive or a complete negative.

Yeah, once again best possible scenario for the Lakers was giving Melo the ball and let him take shots away from every other rotation player. He was basically our sixth man out there in the first half on both ends
This thread was bad at the start but it's aging like milk to look even worse.
the Trail Blazers have a -20.4 net rating with Melo on the court in their series against the Lakers, and a +18.4 net rating when he sits. just gonna enter that into the discourse
I wouldn't have minded him as a 8-9th guy, sort of what Dion is right now. The organization wanted to develop Kuz and rightfully so, so he would have to get Melo's shots off the bench. I just don't think that is what Melo wanted, regardless of what his agent was saying at the time. He got into a good situation where he could play 33mpg and lots of shots.
I actually wanted to trade Bynum and pieces for him back in the day so we could trot out a Kobe/Melo/LO/Pau team. So I don't hate Melo. (and have him on my 2K legacy team with Kobe...there you have it). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Honestly looking back this wouldnt have changed anything. This was during the 2011 season. We still arent getting past Dallas. Bynum actually played very well throughout the 2011 playoffs and showed he was better than Chandler and Okafor. 2011 was really the end of our title run with or without Melo.
Melo is truly the greatest con artist of the NBA media and casual fan base. Guess what that third quarter outburst did? Just gave him and his teammates the false confidence to keep going to him later on. Melo taking a mid-range jumper versus Dame/CJ shooting anything is a WIN for us. Please keep that same energy the rest of the series, and it will be a wrap soon enough. And by the way, his comment after the game

Carmelo Anthony: “We’re good. It’s only 2-1. That means we’ve got a series. We’re sitting in a good situation. We’re not concerned. We know what we have to do.”

Exactly, he deserves some props for the 3rd quarter but at the same time he was also our sixth man yet again for the entire first half and when that false confidence backfired and didn't keep up in the fourth all it did was take shots from the better players which i'll take every game!
He also doesn't just simply miss shots, he iso's much of the time and takes the entire lineup on the floor out of the game.
