Yea, twitter in particular has a problem with that. Lots of jumping the gun.

As snopes reported, he did no raping of a minor. "Blake faced charges of having sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has three children in common."

The initial story of him breaking up a fight between 2 girls and was simply walking back to his car also wasn't accurate? Twitter will be the downfall of us all!

How can illuminating social injustice be a waste of time?

NBA player's voices are louder and resonate with a larger audience than the average American. They're using a platform not afforded the every day Joe.

Police brutality has never captured America as it is now. White America is finally starting to believe what we've been saying for years. It's like a wakeup call.

Athletes are doing what they've never done before in such solidarity, speak up, speak out. Let's get behind them.

Sports is secondary.

It isn’t that I don’t like it, it is that this isn’t a season. During seasons teams have schedules and play each other. This tournament is by invitation only, some teams weren’t invited to the party. That doesn’t happen during NBA seasons.

Exactly. No point in bringing in teams who have no chance. It’d have just expanded the amount of people to test and track. Plus you had teams like the warriors who didn’t even want to be there.

Look, is it ideal? Of course not. But given the current situation, it’s the best alternative. They completed roughly 70% of the season. Only makes sense to try to crown a champion.

It was performative activism if they were truly serious about this and think Sports is secondary they would've ended the season right then and there in solidarity.

They didn't though because they wouldn't get paid with no playoffs and at the end of the day that's what matters to them. Which is fine but they just wrecked their credibility in the process.

Since they are “player created initiatives” will the players be contributing?

For example how about both sides give 5% of the total revenue. Both sides contribute to a fund and they distribute to selected causes.

How about it be as non political as possible. Keep it to basic needs like job creation, housing, education, food, victim support, health care type issues instead of voting or political advocacy groups.

Hard part about any plan is who controls the money? Who picks the projects? Who gets to choose what is acceptable or too controversial? NBA already committed to $30M a year for 10 years. Where is that money going?

I understand the re-start is about leverage. Just cynical of the actual process. Forcing the NBA owners to provide a huge war-chest for what purpose has to be considered.

Going to be interesting to see how the focus and intensity of the first few games will look. Typically players and coaches are locked into the playoffs by now. Will they be able to flip the switch to find that old passion for the game and a championship or is that simply too trivial at this moment?

We will see.
