Yes, very admirable showing from Houston. An astute team that has a very impressive 2 conference finals appearances (and losses) since 2000.
Looks like those Rockets (once again) need a fine tune.

| After game 1 I was a bit worried the Rockets might get hot, but after game 2 when the Rockets were talking about how well they played to still lose game 2 after being down 27, as if they won a morale victory, I knew these Rockets don’t even believe in themselves enough to use the scoreboard as a barometer for who won the game. |

This team doesn't have the margin that the 2009 team had over the 2009 Rockets. Again, we won Gm5 by 30 and were up by 30 in Gm7 (winning by 19). At least half the time, we didn't blow 20 points of a lead that season. That's one thing we've done with almost every 20 point lead we've had this season(s) against any opponent. The 09 series going to 7 was just the Lakers being lazy and fiddling with the switch after Yao Ming got injured and was out of the series after Gm3. This 2020 series took (and still will take) committed effort for at least long enough to get ahead of HOU by about 20, if not a solid 3 quarters of effort. Then if they want to milk the lead, that's OK as long as they don't blow it by losing.
However, this series and season isn't that comparable to 2009. If the Lakers had remained casual after Gm1 until now, they wouldn't be up no 3-1. Series would've been 2-2 right now at best. And I didn't think they would lose the series just because they lost Gm1, but every time they have a 4 game layoff, they return all rusted and have to rediscover their shots and/or D and/or hustle. That's something they never fixed this season(s). I hope we're in lockstep with the Clippers as far as Gm5 goes in our series meaning I hope both teams finish DEN/HOU. DEN ain't coming back...I have no dreams about the Nuggz actually winning 3 games from the Clips, so the reality staring us in the face is that we're prolly gonna be playing LAC in the playoffs for the first time ever. In that series, every game is critical. They can't just piss away Gm1 like it doesn't count. (Not saying they will, either, just saying don't do what we did the last two series). We won Gm1 in both 2000 and 2002 vs POR/SAC. By the time Gm7 rolls around two weeks after the series starts, whoever loses that Gm1 is gonna be kicking themselves in the ass. Losing it and then putting out that standard blather about 7 games being a long series and adjustments have to be made after every game probably won't cut it against the Clips. If you thought the reaction after Gm1 vs HOU was bad, wait til we lose one against the Clips.

If we can survive Harden scored 21 points on 20 FT, Rockets had more FT (30) than FGA (28), and Rockets almost reached 40 FT while shooting mostly 3, then we can win this series. |
