Dumb move to trade Capela. They would ave taken out the Warriors in 2018 if Chris Paul hadn’t gotten injured.

Is D’Antoni a Hall of Fame level coach? What distinguishes his style of play from Don Nelson’s— in other words, why is he considered the pioneer of this uptempo system?

Good riddance, enjoy retirement Mr. Pringles.

he's said he still wants to coach...
there's like 6 open head coaching positions, and for some reason MDA is highly sought after - so, he'll be coaching somewhere

Philly, Pacers, Bulls, New Orleans, OKC all need coaches (and Rockets of course)
Pacers are reportedly pretty interested

I think MDA just saw that situation as diminishing returns and it was time to get out before the house of cards collapses. Another 5 years there wouldn't have been pretty starting in 2 more years or so

Mike D'Antoni and his system is only good for a young team and for the regular season. He won't help a team win a NBA Championship. Not even a Conference Championship. He's only good for Division Championships.

D'Antoni will never win a ship. He's stuck on a system that won't win one. Mike's a one trick pony. He'll have a good season record but won't win a Larry O'Brien with his system.

He did well in Pheonix because he had players that fit his system. He takes his system wherever he goes. If he doesn't have the right players he still tries to make the system work instead of using another system. I don't think he has another one.

I don't know where he'll land. Wherever he goes I'll bet the condo they won't win a championship.
Imagine if he had a prime STAT in this era. He's the ultimate small ball center

Owner decided not to bring him back before this season started.

The owner and Morey were both being quoted less than 2 weeks ago on Sportscenter and elsewhere saying resigning MDA was their highest priority this offseason.
revisionist history isn't going to work here

It’s hard to know what to believe in a situation where a coach has his team in the playoffs but isn’t under contract beyond the season. If they say they’re not sure about the future or are waiting to see how the playoffs play out, it will be assumed that there is a ton of drama behind the scenes and it will be a question throughout the playoffs.

His Nash lead teams had a chance until they ran into to the Spurs who bullied and bloodied MDA's finesse team.

This man wanted Capela off the team to start PJ Tucker at the 5 🤯 Loll

For 15 years, opposing teams have proven to shut his teams down in the playoffs.

for some strange reason, people keep getting surprised by this - even though it keeps happening to MDA teams year after year. Even NBA analysts who should know better and should remember history..

Defenses tighten up considerably in the playoffs. Always have. Refs allow more contact from these tighter defenses in the playoffs. They always have too.

MDA's teams have always been like fine china - pretty to look at during the regular season, but shatter under tough defenses in the playoffs.

for some reason a lot of supposedly basketball knowledgeable people looked at Houston's regular season defense stats and "bubble" defense stats and thought this team was different. "#1 defense in the bubble" and all that bull.
They shoulda known better. They really shoulda known better watching OKC beat up Houston. If OKC had been just slightly more talented, they woulda won.

The owner also has been quoted numerous times saying he’s willing to spend in the tax and ducks it every season. Our owner “says a lot”, yet the coach has been in lame duck status all year and him not coming back was generally known once he couldn’t get more than one guaranteed year before this season.

Gotta ask though , are most Rockets fans truly done with Westbrook? He caught corona unfortunately and then hurting his hamstring definitely had a lot to do with his decline this series. Still a superstar talent imo.

We hated that trade from jump, but the owner wanted it.

Mixed feelings. Clint was hurt and Covington isn’t bad.

Morey is an idiot. I hope the Rockets keep him around so we'd have one less headache in the WC. Houston looks like they might be in rebuilding mode next year without 2 first round picks. Ouch.

MDA is smart to jump off the sinking ship. I hope he finds a good home. Knicks could have used MDA. They've been changing hc like changing pants.

Feel like those are hard sentiments to take at face value. A player could simply want to avoid the reputation of being a "coach killer."

I feel they should just bite the bullet and go through a restart. Trade Harden and WB for picks. Harden would be deadly on a team where he could be the second option.

Restart without 2 first rounders and they'd have swap 1st rounder with Thunder next year so they couldnt even tank next year.

I don't like the Nash hire. It seems it was done more out of friendship than a good basketball move.

It's been said Steve has a great personality but he has no coaching cache or acumen. IMO with the roster the Nets have an experienced coach would have been a better move.

He has to deal with two mega egos in Kyrie and KD. They may be friends now but if they start losing friendship's out the window.

I think Ty Lue would have been the better hire. He has the cache and acumen. There are a plethora of experienced coaches available.

I wish Steve well.

I think it can happen. Not only is it because Steve under D'Antoni. But Sean Marks who is currently the Nets GM was a teammate of Steve and also played under D'Antoni. If he doesn't get another head coaching gig, think he would love to go back to New York and be back being in a region that has a high population of fellow Italians.

Yeah, I think Steve got the job because his friends, KD and Kyrie wanted him.
