If AD/LBJ only win 1 championship, was it worth it to trade the assets that we did to get AD/LBJ?

Without AD the Lakers would have not won a championship.
So the NBA championship was well worth the trade.
It would have taken 3 to 5 years for the young core to develop.
By that time Lebron would be retired and window closed.

Championships don't come easy.

I don't think I'll ever get over that I shall never again witness Lonzo Ball's beautiful stroke and LaVar Ball's wholesome support of his beloved son who he proudly puts ahead of himself while he steps back into the shadows.

Miss that so....

PS: The 1 "no" vote?.......VLF.

A rare Jackson Pollock only 19x24 inches sold the other day for 13 million. Why? Because every Pollock drip painting is a masterpiece by a genius and you can't deny one when you see one in any artistic field (like Brawn). Every NBA championship won after a decade is a Pollock. Is it worth it? YES. No question, gavel strikes plate.

Is this sarcasm and I am missing it?

1. The team surrounding DLO, Lonzo and BI wouldn't have had more upside than the current Celtics team.

2. By the time, DLO, Lonzo and BI reach their potential they will have been free agents. There is no guarantee that they would have stayed.

Recall: DLO (and Mozgov) needed to go in 2017 to get the cap space for LBJ in 2018.

I am going to go out on a limb and say yes, this is sarcasm. The person who voted no is obviously a troll, or Ball's Dad.

Probably the dude who said LeBron was a cancer and wasn't worth it either. And he stands by it and wasn't wrong, dammit!

Obviously, but the pick structure should've been more favorable for the Lakers given what players Pelinka gave up and the non-existent trading options Griffin faced.

I won't know if the trade was worthwhile for five more years. One never really knows in an instant. For example, if the Lakers were to have a 2021 - 2024 series of years that resembled what we saw from an AD-lead teams in New Orleans for the past four seasons (if LeBron were to go down and not come back) then it is probably not worth it to me.

How many more championships do we have to win for this to be worth it for you?

Not hindsight - Said at the time it was worth it.

You had the best player of his generation who based on even last years play was a top 5 player (and got better defensively to return to being one of the top 2 guys this year) to be paired with the best big man in the NBA and arguably the best talent in the NBA, who happens to be a top 5 guy also. I mean, you can not look beyond the history of what happens when you have 2 guys like that on the same team.

When someone like Bron trusts you, when you suck, you need to reward him with a chance.

I'll take the for-sure ring.

After all, we could have not made the trade and had 5 bad years too. It's not keeping Ingram, Ball, etc. was a guarantee of success.

That young core did not look very promising to me.(Hell I don't think I liked any of the Lakers lotto picks over the last few years)

Watching Lonzo miss free throws in non-playoff qualifying seasons is better.

I don't think we win one if we build with the youth. Likely start paying those guys and then realize we not winning with them. That seems to be what happens to every team that feels they have great young guys. Fans overrate them and then complain a few years later, when they get a huge deal they then don't feel they deserve.

I've always felt the best way to win for us was exactly how we did it. Use our scouting department to get the attractive young talent potential free agents want to play with or use to trade.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion (even if it is dead wrong), so I’d love to hear from the ones that voted “No” as to why this wasn’t worth it.

Yep, we won the trade regardless of what happens to all players involved in the deal from here on out. The ultimate goal of any trade decision is to win a championship and we did just that. It tied us for most championship ever. Now, because of that trade, next year we'd be in position to shatter that record. Very damn well worth it.

There are many ways for a team to build a championship contender. Through the draft, free agency, and trades. It doesn't matter how you do it. If you win it all it was worth it.

Draft picks aside, Lonzo will be a solid player for a while in the league. BI is a legit #2 in a few years. Hart is replaceable. AD is 1b on this team. No contest Lakers got the deal done and it earned them a chip. Now can the Lakers free up cap space, hopefully so. Add a real #3 and perhaps you can win another one.

Yes, but we are winning more than one so this about one is moot. I feel good about another in the next two years, and see 2 more in three as a possibility (total of 3).

Lebron, the clear best player in the league, has to feel age sometime down the line, right? He is human, all evidence to the contrary.

It's a feel thing, not a count of trophies at all. I think I was pretty clear.

If the Lakers were to suck wind for the next four years or so, say as badly as they did for most of the past decade, it will probably feel it wasn't worth it - to me. Just have to see what happens and take measure of the effects of the big roster moves as we go along. This championship is pretty sweet on its own, so it's no criticism of its value to say it's not enough on its own to make the trades worthwhile. So far, so good and that's a good place to be.
