Anyone have a clue why Phil keeps giving Devin Green minutes? THe guy sucks, and we fall behind every time he comes in the game... |

Why not? When the regulars lose their aggressiveness, you might as well try something else. How many times can you watch Smush pass the ball backward on the fast break and fail to get the ball down the floor? Might as well get Green a chance. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Because of Walton's loss of confidence and because there's no Laron Profit.
From Kevin Ding's blog:
Quote: | Walton hasn't seen more than 10 minutes in a game since Feb. 7 in Dallas, and the reason is that Jackson wants to give Walton some time to rebuild confidence. Walton has always had issues with his jumper, which has been even worse than usual since he shot 0 for 4 in Sacramento on Jan. 19. Combine that with Walton's defensive shortcomings, and Jackson isn't confident, either, about using him. Rookie Devin Green actually got some run ahead of Walton in the second quarter Friday night. |

Once again, we waived Profit and traded Jones to keep a player like Walton and/or Green? _________________ A proud member of LakersGround.net for over 10 years [since April 28, 2001] |

Profit was out for the year with an injury. We should have kept Jones though. |

With Jones I think we could be 28-28 right now. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Jones would have helped this team a lot more than Devin Green or Luke. |

Green could turn out to be a steal for us. He is a very good defender(unlike Smush) and has a high basketball IQ (unlike Smush). He is an average athlete and if he develops a jump shot, he could turn out to be a solid starter or sixth man. |

The odds of Green turning into a starter or a six man are very low imo. |

Devin Green...Luke Walton...Both will not have an impact on the season. Unless it's for losses. |

True, but at least Green has the type of athletic ability that makes you think he could develop like a guy like Martin has for the Kings.
Walton is just a useless matador and shouldn't even be in the league, much less in the rotation of the Los Angeles Lakers. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I agree and with Phil still looking for a constant rotation look for more odd combination on the floor. The one thing I have seen with Phil with the Bulls and the previous Lakers is, that he had a consistant 8 man rotation |

Phil was looking for help since everyone came out flat on defense. Thats why you seen Green and Ronny into the game. |

My guess is that Phil doesn't believe there will be enough time for McKie to be effective come playoff time due to lack of play in the offense, or that he's not likely to make it back at all this season. If Smush or Sasha were to go down they could not even field a guard rotation at this point, so Green must get some game experience. I suspect that sending Wafer down is for that express purpose as well, to get him some game experience so that perhaps he'd be able to come in and knock down situational jumpers in a pinch at seasons close and the four or five playoff games they'll play, since he's obviously not going to pick up tri spacing this season. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. Green is a good defender and knows the tri. Often times he will cut down into the paint to hit a shot or offensive rebound. More playtime will gain confidence and better shooting. |

I agree with the people who say give Green a chance. At this point, you might as well give him a chance when Wafer is gone, Luke is goofing up, Sasha is goofing up, etc. Think about it...how many chances does Luke get because of his "high basketball IQ" as well as people giving him the nod, either consciously or unconsciously because of his father? Sasha makes the occasional 3 and hustles. Green can't be much worse than those two at this point. _________________ Defense is my business, and business is good! |

I totally agree with what you said. he can develop into a good role player. He plays better defense than any one of our bench besides George. He knows the offense, he cuts to the hole, he can rebound, he's just a scrappy player that can develop if given the opportunity. I understand he has a horrible shot, but at least he understands to goto the hole rather than just jacking a shot. |

I agree with the comments that state that Green provides the following
** Energy
** Defensive Pressure
** Knows the Triangle
** Been waiting for his chance, hence he won't "sleep-walk" like what Smush does at least once or twice a game |
