I e-mailed John Black about Kwame Brown...he responded with:

The third year is not guaranteed, it is our option whether to pick up
or not.

Good news. |

Zev - Yes. I also found a site that has the contact info for every teams PR people as well..
LINK
DB - I was thinking the exact same thing. I considered being more descriptive...but then I thought about who my target audience was...and I figured they'd know what it meant. |

This is old (bleep) news. It was stated from the get-go that the third year was a team option. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

There was some confusion recently as a couple league sources indicated LA guaranteed the 3rd year. |

I thoght the third is neither a team nor player option.
Just an unguaranteed third year of the contract.
Can be cut at any team before contracts become guaranteed sometime in January of that year. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction. Next season will be the best of Kwame's career. This guy has the ability to play he just lacks motivation. This will come when he realizes that he doesn't want to lose an 8 mil/yr job. Even Kwame ain't that dumb.
Everyone here as well as Laker mgmt. will be glowing about what a great player this guy is. Third year will be guaranteed. What happens after that will be anyones guess. _________________ Not a legend |

The best news if this is true is that he instantly become an expiring contract this summer , and can be traded soon, if the right deal is in place. |

He's only a "clown" at 8 mil per season. His man-up defense in the post is beyond necessary for this team. How do you propose we deal with the Duncan's, Shaq's and Yaos of this league sans Kwame Brown? Chris Mihm? Brian Cook? Can they man up those guys? No, they can't.
How about we show a little respect for the defensive end of the court, seeing as that's what has cost us so many games? If we could re-sign Kwame for less, that would make him a great long term addition for this team. He's only "bad" because he cost too much.
