where are KG, JO, Snaq, TD, the Wallaces???
hell, shouldn't the starting 5 for the pistons be on that list? |
Actually, no, they shouldn't. Rasheed is too much of a jerk and would make the U.S. look exactly like the world thinks we are - don't care about anything but yourself, arrogant, punk, major attitude. Truthfully, the Pistons have become a bunch of whiners on any call made against them by a ref. Can you imagine how that would look at the Olympics, to see all 5 Pistons constantly carping and crying after whistles as though we're self-entitled? We'd like a little dignity out there.
Secondly, physical defense doesn't work in Olympics - contact is not allowed. I'm not really sure how Bruce Bowen will fare for that reason - he grabs, holds, pulls a lot. Big Ben's shot blocking would have been really nice, though. He's not a strong man defender, but his weakside defense is superb and would work very well. Kobe's defense will be huge in the Olympics because he shadows an opponent's body really well without touching - very hard to do. Billups brings that nice clutch outside shooting and solid defense without too much of the whining (unlike his teammates).
I think Lamar should have been invited. He was a our best player at the Olympics the last go-round, loves to set everyone else up and has those long arms to rebound the ball. He deserved the invite, contrary to the bashing he gets here.
I do like the make up of the team, though. They've addressed go-to crunch time players in Kobe, Wade, Billups. They have scorers and facilitators. Rebounders and defenders. Hopefully, the egos aren't rampant. |

Definitely should have invited Lamar. he adds size, rebounding and versatility. Plus he was arguably the best player on the last olympic team. |
