Incredible... He has a dependable shot from around 5 feet BEYOND the 3pt line. (he has to go further out for it to look bad)
Has anyone noticed how comfortable he has become with that shot? Its routine for him now...

Ive been a critic of 3pt shooting, especially kobes. I think he bails out the defense when he takes any type of 3pt shot.... But it sure is amazing to see how he can burn anyone anywhere w/ ease. Who the hell wants to guard him that far out? I cant wait to see him play w/ players that space the floor for him.

I think they need to paint a special line for him.

Well I dont like another 9 threes for Kobe this game even though he shot a good percentage. Obviously I didnt mind that last 3 since the game is over so its not gonna hurt us, but just jacking up 3 after 3 can get on my nerves.

I think it's nice when he's feeling it but I still think it would be harder for players and teams to guard him when he's feeling the mid range shot. It's a high % shot and you won't beable to get a barring on him if he's either gonna pull up or get to the rim.

It's almost if he's trying to stretch the floor as a way of coping with the way he's been defended since 81...

His range is really ridiculous. I get on Kobe's case for superfluous 3s as well (late in the shot clock or in a decided game don't qualify) but it's amazing to see how comfortable he is with a shot 30 feet from the basket.

Couldn't agree more.

The silly part is that the extra distance rarely seems to affect him.

I'd guess his 3pt% is at least as good from 27+ feet as it is from near the line.

Few "all around talent" guards in NBA history have had that kind of range.

Remember the skills comp. ... he hit the half court shot perfectly... he practices ALL of these shots, thats the scary part... he works on the aspects of the game that no one else would

The telling part of the "half court competition" on ASW was that when you
watched Kobe shoot his half-court shots, not only was every single one
of them close (rimming out, aside from the made one) - but that his form
was a straight freaking jumper.

That's just off the charts when you talk about range.

In fairness, one or two of the East guards had a similar form, but weren't
catching mad rim on every try like Kobe.

I dunno if that bolded part was intentional or a typo, but it's damn true.

This is one thing Kobe clearly has over Jordan. Kobe's range starts from the parking lot.

The funny thing is, Kobe's 3-pointers from about 4 feet behind the arc and further seem to go in at a higher percentage than the ones just behind the line.

I think he can get away with that deep-3 attempt twice or so a game.

As long as it's not too routine, the fact that there's no defender in his face
on most of those actually helps his percentage (countering the extra
distance). Whether it balances out is up for debate, but it seems to work
out well enough from what I've seen.

Ehm, if the defender overplayed Kobe out there, it would be in Kobe's favor because he would just bait and then take it around him; so you'll not likely ever see Kobe covered out there. As a defender you can't have it all, you have to sacrifice something.

Kobe rarely shoots superfluous threes. The only time he'll shoot really long-range threes is when no other shot exists (poor spacing, or with the shot clock running down) or in a heatcheck (when he's hot).

i've been watching basketball for twenty years, and i've NEVER seen a player with the range that kobe has. not only shooting the shot casually, but consistently making it. not even larry bird did stuff like that regularly, back in the day.

To be honest, Kobe has a really good chance of winning a 3 point contest if they let him participate.
He'll be the only player with a dunk trophy and a 3point trophy.

and this is why we want Kobe taking that "desperation" shot at the end of the game. his range is unreal and he makes the impossibe 3's look like layups

I remember in his second year in the league, there was a game against Indiana where I saw his range.

The Lakers were down like 8 with a minute to go and Kobe hit three 3's in a row all of from 3-6 feet from the 3 point line.

He's always had range .....

Kobe can will the ball into the basket, sorta like Bird.
Even though his 3P% is not as good as Nowitzki/Allen, I bet if he goes head to head against them in the 3P competition, he will thrash them.
They really should enter him into that competition.

what's crazy is how EASY he shoots that shot.

i mean, i have trouble getting the basketball to the hoop from nba 3, shooting with my normal motion.. so i have to push it more.

kobe shoots 30 footers like 15 foot jumpshots.. it's really ridiculous. how he generates so much distance on his shot is incredible.

Exactly.

I am tall and a good shooter myself. But the NBA 3 is a True Man's Shot, it is a very difficult shot to shoot in a normal shooting motion unless you are extremely big, strong, athletic or a combo of the 3.

I can hit jump shots all day long from the college 3 comfortably. But the NBA 3 turns it from a shot into more of a chuck for me.

For Kobe to be shooting with his normal shooting motion from 4-5 feet BEHIND the NBA line is just sick. It is really amazing.
