his on-ball defense was actually good to decent. it's on the screens where he gets absolutely killed

on the other end he's a shooter shooter. love that. Frank has to be smart when to play him if and when he has all his guys back, but he deserves minutes.

reminds me a lot of Lou Will

His off the ball D is where I really feel the pain. Today for example, everytime AD would switch up high, Monk would be slow to recognize ADs man needed a body or to be an obstacle in stopping the pass.

It probably won't last but Monk's defense has been good for the past two games for a combined +/- of +50!

Really think Monk would benefit most in a starting lineup with LeBron and Westbrook beside him. Westbrook, Monk, LeBron, AD, Jordan?Dwight I think would work well for him.

Great game from him. He's definitely earned a bigger role and deserves more minutes.

Agree. I've been saying that he seems like an opportunistic type of scorer; he's better being set up.

Yup, he could be deadly for sure. He can still drive to the hoop or make a nice pass as well depending what the defense does. Just something most defenses will hate having to worry about with our big 3 out there as well.

I'd also love to see at least some games when the opposition has a more finesse center to give DJ the night off and throw another shooter out there instead and watch us start out the gate much better.

Loved the brass balls this guy has. Bodes real well for his playoff future he has the guts to hit tough free throws and shots late in games.

His offense is great. I would love to see him get to the next level defensively though.

I of course know he is never going to be a defensive stopper. If he could rotate quicker that would really help our team defense. He could also fight through the screens better. There is no reason that he couldn't turn into at least a adequate team defender.

He is playing for the minimum this season. That is just absurd given his age and ability. If he is this good offensively then it's pretty clear where he could improve. He could really learn a lot playing for a defensive coach and a team full of vets.

We got a complete steal in obtaining Malik Monk!
Definitely of this generation and IMO if we had any different roster lacking the star power we have, this kid is easily a starting talent prone for stardom!

Like his maturity, fearlessness and athleticism…
If he learns to move without the ball, OMG!!!

I think the most of his ability to shoot free throws more than his ability to shoot from deep and finish around the basket. If it wasn’t for Malik, this team would be dead last in free throw percentage. I want Malik at the free throw line with the game on the line.

Everyone with any basketball sense knows this was a steal...the guy offensively is a baller....It's the defense that will not keep him in games...and not necessarily his on ball D which is decent...it's the PNR D where he really suffers....whenever a big sets a pick and AD or whoever switches, Monk has to learn to roll with the big to the basket and cut the lane. We got burned a lot with that last night...but it's an easy fix...it just requires Monk to be constantly aware of what's going on on defense.

Monk has shown he is an effective player.
His +/- has been among the best on the Lakers.

He was a good find and will help the Lakers this year.

An issue that I see with Monk is that he takes bad shots.

Yes, last night he made it… but I would still call it a bad shot. Over the course of a season, and more importantly the playoffs, you can’t have players taking low percentage shots when it matters most.

Like his general demeanor and his ability to create shots. If he can rein in his game just a little bit and become a defensive disruptor he can be dynamite. Athleticism and shot making is there for him…

He shot it with confident, team expected him to shoot as you can see rondo set a pick. I feel with every game this team is finding each other our more and more.

That's the kind of unconscious you need out there in the clutch. With him and Melo in tight game situations when you need shots, you know the ball is going up. No hesitation like you saw with players from last few years. Of course the downside is that they don't play as well on D, but there are some improvements on D since game 1.
