I’ve been saying this.

We need to think beyond this season. We are 6th, maybe we can finish 5th. No chance at higher. Just as good a chance we finish for a play in or two play ins.

Develop the right role guys around Bron/AD. Unload WB in the off-season unless he has an incredible postseason run.

Answer: Early bird. 175% of previous season or NBA average. Would be about $10 million.

So yeah no real chance

Yeah, I’m guessing we gotta extend WB, hard cap ourselves then give monk the MLE, prob need to clear THT… cap math?

If there's any possible way to keep Monk, it should be the top priority. Wish they could just swap his contract with THT's.

Sadly we're gonna end up letting him walk and have the overconfidence that we can find "Another Monk" for the minimum next year. It really sucks we can't have any continuity year after year save for Lebron/AD (and now Westbrook).

i don't think this is all on Klutch and Pelinka. This is Buss kids' doing. just pay top $$$ for a couple big names to keep Lakers relevant and penny pinching elsewhere. Continuity is a big ? Ever since the 1st 3 peat with Shaq and Kobe, supporting cast over the years have changed quite often.

Needs to become our PG (lebron is really the pg) so we can put more size at SG/SF when Davis comes back

Monk
LeBron
Davis

is really lethal on offense. Put 2 defenders that can shoot and we are a problem. Even Stanley + Ak15 might do it. Need more size than Bradley though.

Yeah it starts with Jeanie. Dr. Buss never overpaid for role players but seemed to at least pay them above the league min. That's not the way anymore. Next year's team will be Lebron/AD/Russ and 10 all new league mins + an MLE.

Yeah but Dr. Buss never paid 40+ million for a 3rd banana. Even with the last championship team, you only had Kobe making top-tier money with Gasol, Bynum, Odom, and even D12 tiers below. The problem is that we currently have 3 top-tier salaries. This is unfortunately the bed we've made by investing in an aging superstar and another that's injury prone; it warranted a 3rd (albeit just perceived nowadays) superstar and further exacerbated by the poor fit.

By the time, most of Lakersground has figured this out, its already too late. The few who wondered about this BEFORE this season started are the kind of thinkers we need. This kind of short-sighted thinking is why we are going to lose Monk. There are a few of us who would have signed him to a 3 year deal at the MMLE or at least a 2 year deal at that rate which considering his market value and talent would have been a complete steal and one he would have accepted considered his lack of interest.

How nice it is to have a young, offensive monster.

Keep going, Malik.

Correct, but it would be nice if AD showed the same want and passion you see from Monk.

AD hasn’t had Malik type dunks since 2019-20. That ferocious threat on offense.

To be fair, Malik had to prove himself defensively. When you are unplayable in Charlotte of all places that’s not good. He needed to prove he was still a rotation player and not a guy who can fill it up but give it right back on defense.

The lack of interest was justified. Happens to a ton of former lottery picks.

Monk is hungry and playing for his bag. AD already got his and is mailing it in

He’s only a steal at the vet min for a projected tithe contender if he comes through in the postseason. But since we like to continuously wonder about the possibilities till that playoffs come, here’s how dude compares to that other microwave player we were in the market for:

Quote:
StatMuse
@statmuse

FG% this season:
48.1 — Malik Monk
38.7 — Buddy Hield

3P% this season:
39.7 — Malik Monk
37.8 — Buddy Hield

Salary this season:
1.7M — Malik Monk
22M — Buddy Hield

Who’s the best minimum player of all time? Malik Monk is climbing that list…

At this point, Malik is better at everything except for shooting compare to Hield(not a given also)

All things considered, Monk >> Westbrook or Hield

Start him no matter what.

We're going to lose him aren't we? Are we limited in what we can offer him not counting Jeannie's frugality?

He's been sensational as a starter offensively.

Unfortunate the Lakers have no way to retain his services.

Adding him to a trade package as a sweetner may net the Lakers a real impact player.

Ur saying if he pulls an Eddie Jones he wont be worth it...but the guy still had plenty of trade value to land the 2nd best shooting guard in the NBA had we accepted the deal for Mitch Richmond in November 1997 and landed us Glen Rice when he still held tremendous value in Charlotte. Monk as good as Eddie? No way in hell as Eddie was an awesome 2 way player who was an above average offensive shooting guard and the 2nd best defender at the shooting guard position in the NBA behind Jordan but playoff choking players can still fetch a great return in a trade if they perform....at least in the regular season
