|
|
Quote: | Lakers GM Rob Pelinka says the team is in the final evaluations of what to do with the 14th roster spot. Spot 14 will likely be filled before training camp starts. Spot 15, he said they will leave open because of tax implications and potential buyout market

Some of the rumored players for that spot:
A) Kenneth Faried
B) James Ennis
C) Darren Collison
D) Monta Ellis
E) Wes Matthews
Should we poll? _________________

I’ll say Ennis because they really need a wing.
But something tells me it might end up being Collison. Just a gut feeling. |

Besides Ennis for the backup 3 slot, I kinda like Jakarr Samson as an athletic, defensive-minded back up 4. Since we lost Markieff, there is a void right there going into the season. I don't think DeAndre J. moves his feet laterally well enough to try to take on this role.
My guess is that Jakarr's lack of shooting and play making is too much of a liability for our decision makers, but a defensive PF has value for a team with championship aspirations. |

no love for Wes Mathews? He was solid last year and we can use another defensive specialist. And there is value in having some level of continuity by bringing back players already familiar with each other. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Ennis is so overrated. He's not a legit defender and his 3 point shooting % last year was fools gold... low amount of attempts and he's never shot close to that % in prior seasons. There's a reason why he is still a FA at this point. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

Matthews is turning 35 and he's been in decline for a few years now.
That said, I'd probably take him over Ennis. But if the Lakers go with Ennis, I wouldn't consider it a significant difference.
Hard to imagine either of them would get much run. |

Agree 100 percent. I have no idea whether all this Ennis love came from. |

What does that say for Matthews? No one has worked Him out and there is zero interest by anyone whatsoever. The only one who would be happy if we signed him would be Booker. |

I think he is saying "we have enough guys" who are 6'4" or less. There only 1,422 of them already in a Laker uniform so why add yet another one, lol. |

Ennis, IMO, is the easy and logical choice. Can play the bench 3 which would allow Bazemote to start and then Wayne used more as a situational guy.
Jordan (12), Dwight (16), AD (20)
AD (12), Melo (18), LeBron (18)
LeBron (12), THT (20), Ennis (16)
Bazemore (20), Monk (20), Nunn (8)
Westbrook (34), Nunn (14)
+ Ariza, Wayne, Rondo
That's sort of how I'd run the bulk of the regular season and then tighten up as the playoffs come around. Perhaps Ariza moving in for someones mins. Or Ariza could have Ennis' 16 now. |

What would be the expectation for Ennis? As a 3rd string SF he is not overrated and the “love” is certainly an exaggeration. The preference to sign him is easy to see why others would want it whether I agree or not and it can easily be recognized why some choose him even if you would prefer someone else.
1- Lakers only have 6’4” or shorter plus 6’8” or taller, no 6’5”s, 6’6”s or 6’7”s
Ennis is 6’6”
2- Maybe last year’s 3pt % for Ennis is fools gold maybe he worked on it
and now it’s trending up, either way we can understand others being
optimistic with him having shot 43.3% from 3 last year, even if we are not
3- Ennis can be described as a decent defender even if some disagree
4- Lakers are crowded in the back court with seven 6’4” or shorter guards
5- Ennis fits position of need
He may turn out to be a bust, certainly not to be counted on as #14 signing, anyone signed as a deep bench player is likely to end up being a non factor. But of all the players available, Ennis has the bests chance (not good odds, more like queen of the pigs lol!, suck the least if you will) of surprisingly being useful to the team. |

It’s unclear what type of player or skill set the team seeks, though the Lakers could use another defensive wing/guard.

I don’t even know if he’s still looking to play, but if Glenn Robinson III is healthy and available, I’d love for the team to sign him as an under the radar wing.
28 years old, 6-6, capable defender, can hit corner 3s, good character guy. Was a double digit scorer in GS’ rotation a couple years back, injured late last year with SAC. Decent young vet and not on the north end of 30. |

Free agent James Ennis worked out for the Lakers this week, sources tell @The Athletic. As Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka said on Thursday, the team is looking to fill its 14th roster spot by training camp next Tuesday. |

^^^ Yes, please! Ennis ain't perfect, but there are very few options at his mid-tier size that has both shooting and defensive potential for a bench role. |
