Alright my Lakers Fam, the road to 18 starts on Sunday. Here’s what’s happening

NO LBJ OR RUSS OR CARMELO. AD FIRST QUARTER ONLY

Per Buha

LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony and Trevor Ariza will not play against the Nets in the Lakers’ preseason opener on Sunday, per Frank Vogel.

https://twitter.com/jovanbuha/status/1444045394107764737?s=21

Vogel added that Anthony Davis will only play in the first quarter.

ARIZA SKIPPED PRACTICE - ANKLE

Per Turner
Vogel said Trevor Ariza didn't practice because of a sore right foot/ankle

https://twitter.com/ba_turner/status/1444046567900520448?s=21

Per Oram

Frank Vogel said LeBron, Russ, Carmelo and Ariza will all sit out the Lakers preseason opener, taking some of the juice out of the first look at Lakers-Nets. Ariza missed practice for the second straight day with right ankle soreness.

TDRock - thanks again for starting a thread I'll be looking at all season long. I hope it's a short thread with very little to talk about this season... yeah we all know the likelihood of that happening.

Well I, for one, Am Excited To See Any Kind of NBA Basketball

Per McTen

The LAL-BKN preseason opener is looking lackluster w/ both Big 3s set to rest, save for Anthony Davis who'll play the 1st Q. Why? "AD didn’t finish the season," Vogel said. "He finished in street clothes because of injury. He wants to get out there, so we’ll support him on that"

Cautious Approach With Ariza, But Not A Big Deal

Per Trudell on NBA.com

Trevor Ariza has been dealing with a sore ankle throughout the week, which has kept him from participating fully in every practice. He won’t play on Sunday against Brooklyn as a precaution, but Frank Vogel said this is not an issue they’re worried about moving forward.

“Right now he’s still out with the sore ankle,” said Vogel. “We’re in the process of evaluating that day-to-day.”

Pre Season Lineups - And Definitely No Gamesmanship

Per Buha

Lakers’ starters vs. the Nets, per Frank Vogel:

Kendrick Nunn
Kent Bazemore
Talen Horton-Tucker
Anthony Davis
DeAndre Jordan

https://twitter.com/jovanbuha/status/1444720358716698627?s=21

Video of DeAndre

Per Turner - 🎥 https://twitter.com/ba_turner/status/1444723257299521537?s=21

Nets Starters

Per Schiffer

Steve Nash says Jevon Carter, Bruce Brown, DeAndre’ Bembry, Paul Millsap and LaMarcus Aldridge will start against the Lakers.

https://twitter.com/alex__schiffer/status/1444725013421060099?s=21

Per Goon

Steve Nash says the reason most of the star Nets who are sitting out is about anticipating a long season: “It’s a little early for gamesmanship.”

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

Per Trudall/NBA.com

WHO’S IN, WHO’S OUT
OUT: LeBron James (rest), Russell Westbrook (rest) and Trevor Ariza (ankle)
IN: Everybody else

Frank Vogel told us after Tuesday’s practice that LeBron and Westbrook wouldn’t yet make their debut this preseason at Phoenix, though he didn’t rule them out for Friday’s contest at Golden State. However, Anthony Davis will play, and Carmelo Anthony will make his Lakers preseason debut after resting in the opener on Sunday against Brooklyn.

Anyone know the specifics of Ariza's ankle injury? I read that he came to camp with it... Not sure how bad it actually is or what his timeline might be.

Per Buha

Frank Vogel says Dwight Howard is out today but will play against the Warriors. DeAndre Jordan will play today but then sit against the Warriors.

Yeah they aren’t being specific. They keep downplaying it but then they keep saying he’s out so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

TRUTH COMING OUT - ARIZA

Per Shams

Lakers forward Trevor Ariza underwent a procedure on his right ankle and will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, team says.

https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1445937423628881923?s=21

Per Buha

The Lakers announce that forward Trevor Ariza had an “arthroscopic debridement procedure” performed on his right ankle today. He will be reevaluated in about eight weeks. The Lakers say he is expected to make a “full and complete recovery.”

https://twitter.com/jovanbuha/status/1445937670497075203?s=21

Per Goon

Frank Vogel said the other day that the ankle issue was preexisting for Ariza, and was aggravated by the first day of camp. Big setback for the 36-year-old who hasn’t played more than 53 games in any regular season since 2018-19. (emphasis TDRock… really?! What in the hell… )
