Isiah Thomas Coming to the Lakeshow ?

Per Shams

Isaiah Thomas is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Thomas scored 42 points in his NBA G League debut on Wednesday night

https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1471580915142905864?s=21

Thomas is planning to sign a 10-day contract under the hardship exemption, sources said.

https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1471581453326692355?s=21

Per McTen

If LAL - which has full 15 man roster - is granted a hardship exemption by the NBA, it plans to sign Isaiah Thomas to a 10-day contract on Friday, sources tell ESPN. Ironically, Thomas was traded from CLE to LAL in ‘18 in deal that opened up the cap space for LAL to sign LeBron

MALIK OUT OF PROTOCOL

Per Goon

Can confirm ESPN report and add that Malik Monk was permitted by the NBA to travel with the Lakers to Minnesota.

https://twitter.com/kylegoon/status/1471661649178333188?s=21

And now the Woj tweet is back. Could have been something as simple as a typo who knows

Per Woj

Lakers guard Malik Monk has tested out of Covid protocols, sources tell @mcten and me. Prior testing led him into protocols on Wednesday. The Lakers play Minnesota on Friday night. Russell Westbrook, Avery Bradley, Dwight Howard and Talen Horton-Tucker remain in protocols.

Should the fact that Monk is out of protocols after just a couple of days give us hope that Russ, Dwight, THT and AB may exit protocols not too long from now too?

NEW COVID PROCEDURES

Per Woj

ESPN Sources: The NBA and NBPA have agreed to new Covid protocols for the Christmas holidays, including daily testing and increased use of masks. Fifty-two players have gone into the league's protocols this month.

https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1471685398510424067?s=21

The increased testing will run December 26-January 8, and masks will be required for players, coaches and staff on the bench, in the locker, weight and training rooms and while traveling with the teams, per memo shared with teams and obtained by ESPN.

It seems like. It seems like they are no longer doing the mandatory 10 day quarantine but instead doing increased testing and if a player can get two negative tests and a 24 hour span then they'll be released from the protocol that seems to be what they're doing nowadays. Hopefully these tests are accurate and folks don't bounce right back in the protocol but yeah. It seems like they are making a way for players to return to the court more quickly which makes sense given vaccination etc.

INJURIES FROM THE OTHER SIDE - MORE COVID IN MINNY

Well actually just protocol but that didn't sound as good

Per Woj

Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has entered into the league’s Covid protocols, sources tell ESPN.

https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1471902871843131396?s=21

EDIT - Now Taurean Prince too

Taurean Prince has also been added to the list of Minnesota players entered into the league’s protocols.

ON THE SIDELINES - COACHES

Per Goon

Hearing David Fizdale will be back on the sideline tonight for the Lakers after missing the Dallas trip for personal reasons. Unlikely that Phil Handy, who has been in the league's protocols, is able to rejoin the team during the road trip.

LOL at "unclear if the 5-foot-9 point guard will be activated for the game"

Was that really necessary for his journalistic piece lol

TREAVOR UPGRADED!

Per McTen

Trevor Ariza has been upgraded to questionable to make his season debut tonight in Minnesota, per the Lakers.

https://twitter.com/mcten/status/1471945994694795278?s=21

Womp womp

More context: Ariza will not play. He will be in uniform, however, because LAL is in need of able bodies in case of emergency.

This is excellent news! I've been waiting to see what our defensive capabilities are with him on the floor, albeit he's a little over the hill.
