|
|
From ESPN.com Chat w/Ric Bucher...
Quote: |
Rakesh (Detriot): Any word on where Tony Delk will land after clearing waivers? How would he impact the Pistons if they sign him? Would he make the rotation at all?
Ric Bucher: (11:15 AM ET ) Three teams have taken a stab at him -- Detroit, Lakers and Miami. The favorite is the Lakers, because they have part of their mid-level exception left to give, whereas Detroit just has the vet minimum. He also knows he'll get more minutes in LA.Detroit needs to reduce the minutes on its starters, but Delk would be strictly an insurance policy behind Lindsey Hunter. |

We dont have a big part of the MLE, cuz we used almost it's total to sign Ronny.
Delk would be a great pickup though, I just dont know if Phil would like him, but if he comes, thats cuz Phil said ok. _________________ www.lakersbrasil.com

Bucher is wrong
Lakers used their remaining MLE on Turiaf (not the 2.5 or so that was left but a part of it)
IS it possible to divide the MLE into 3 players? |

Thatd be great if we got him. Hopefully Detroit doesn't lure him with their winning ways. |

yes, we can divide it up into as many min contracts if we wanted to. |

Ok.
If that's the case then Bucher has a point. We have around 1.7 or so million to offer.
Detroit can offer the vet min (I think that's around 1 million)
If Lakers can land Delk or Penny, I will be very happy. |

Id like Delk, but I have doubts if Penny can still breathe non-artificially. _________________ www.lakersbrasil.com

The vet min and MLE is pro-rated so its not the full amount it was to begin the season.
Aaron McKie was signed for 2.5, Ronny for about 400K. That leaves about 2.1 of the original 5 mil available. Prorate that to figure what Delk would get. So it'd be about 640K for the last 25 games as opposed to around 305K if he signed for the min.

That's true, Cleva.
But wouldn't that amount be twice the amount he could get as a vet min player? If the Lakers are willing to offer 2 times the amount he could get in Detroit - Delk might want to come here. |

Delk would be a nice addition. Hopefully, he can play like he did in college when he was at Kentucky. That would be really nice. |

Has Delk ever won a ring? I'm just asking because that could impact his decision. _________________ Dumbledore closed his eyes and slowly lowered his head before Kupchak. "Teach me," he whispered. |

Update from Bucher.
Quote: | Paul (Chicago): Rick, the Pistons already signed Delk this morning. Get with the program!
Ric Bucher: (11:35 AM ET ) My bad. I talked to a Pistons' official last night and he thought they'd lose out to the Lakers for the reason I stated. Haven't talked to anyone this morning yet. The rest of my answer stands. |
Looks like he's being classy with "Paul". Assumptions were that Delk goes to Detroit but nothing is official as far as I know. |

Ahh. Nevermind.
Quote: | Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the Detroit Pistons have signed free-agent guard Tony Delk to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“We think Tony will be a nice addition to our team as we move toward the end of the season,” said Dumars. “He brings veteran experience and will give us quality depth at both guard positions.”
Delk, 32, was waived by the Atlanta Hawks on 2/24 after playing in one game this season. He played in 56 games for Atlanta last season averaging 11.9 points and 1.9 assists in 23.9 minutes.

Brunson has some triangle experience. He might be helpful. I suspect the Lakers will play Smush to get him more experience. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |
