Better but not favorites. Not with the Lebron injury, then the AD injury. We'd be where Memphis is. A solid 4th seed with HCA in round 1, IMO. Mainly because there would be some chemistry and defensive continuity with having many of the championship team role players in tact and you brought back guys like Bradley, Dwight.

Without the AD of 19-20, there's no way you win or be favored to win a title.

If we're a play in team post WB trade. We're probably a 4th or 5th seed in the same injury riddled circumstances without the WB trade.

Honestly, in hindsight, the best move for the regular season would have been to do very little other than just add some pieces via FA. Then make a trade during the season, for a quality piece that could get you over the top. Hindsight is always 20-20, though.

Even Buddy can't fix this mess. The team construction stinks. It starts at the top.

Lol at the fools thinking Hield would have done something here. He’d wilt even more under the pressure of LA.

Hield is a one dimensional player and still would cost too much. Perhaps being a little cheaper than Russ may have allowed one player to remain, but I doubt favorites. Lakers issues are mostly about the roster makeup + AD health/performance. Russ was too expensive, Hield still cost the team two rotational players to get.

The saddest part about our off-season and adding Westbrook to this team, is that we could have signed DeRozan for far less and would be significantly better.
Everything anyone has said bad about DeRozan, he's proven them wrong this year. He wanted to play for the Lakers, his home team.

That's the story of the Lakers season this year!

THE END!!!

It would have required a S&T but I believe they had one. If nothing else, one less player which could have been used to trade for someone else.

I don't know about FAVORED, but if they had done the Held deal and kept Caruso, they probably would not have lost as many games...

Seriously as if any of these fools clammoring for Derozan would have wanted him over Westbrook at the time if they were in Pelinka's shoes and knowing they would be hard-capped. Not to mention Derozan's soft ass being exposed in the playoffs multiple times by Lebron. Too many Monday morning Quarterbacks in here who should be ashamed of themselves

Lakers need to keep some of our off season players like KCP & Caruso while bringing on backups (both O & D speaking) for LeBron and AD as we can't win without them or their backup on the court.

When the Lakers have length with talent they are a problem to beat, but the shorty trend is not us. To go small you need any number of outside gunners combined with slashers. We mostly have slashers.

Overpaying for Buddy or Russ, was not high on my list...

We were predicted to win something like 45-46 games and that seems to be fairly accurate

Has it ever occur to anyone here that Buddy lost motivation to play in Sac since he was about to be traded.

Not that he actually forgot how to shoot

We didn’t have to give up as much for that trade and had other flexibilities.

We didn't need to give up anything. Monk, DH & Melo would have been available to fill a potential Buddy role and beyond. And by keeping some assets like Caruso, KCP and Harrell as a back up PF (he's not a C). We just needed to fill the 3&D backup SF roles which Kuz could have facilitated via trade. I think we would have been much better than today.

I'm not on that Buddy train, we just traded a lot for very little in return.

The only reason Buddy was a better deal than Russ was that KCP stayed in LA and AC was likely back. (Who knows on the pick)

But even with Westbrook, we could've still been a much better team starting keeping Caruso. AC said he'd have taken a 2/$20M deal. There's our starting 2 guard. mMLE goes to a bigger wing (Porter Jr?) instead of Nunn. Alone that's a more balanced and potent team. But they wanted to build a big 3 and then just stop spending altogether.

The right move was moving Trez for a bigger wing, bringing back most of last year's team including Dennis and moving forward:

AD, Dwight
Kuz, Melo, Ariza
LeBron, Porter Jr, Reaves
KCP, Caruso, THT
Monk, Dennis, Bradley

RW is a slasher ala THT & LJ's. KCP added 3pt shooting and defense. Our FO, like many others, fell in love with a name, not a fit.

Same said for Buddy; he's has the same output as KCP without KCP's D, yet
we wanted to trade for his name. Buddy was NOT a better fit than KCP and his price tag, ouch.

The FO made off season mistakes they can "try" to defend as they wish, and I know hind sight is 20-20, but they became infatuated with a name,
comparable to what happens to us fans. And here we are...

This

Yep. It's not a matter of Buddy saving this team. All he needed to do is play a role within the offense, to be a threat, and then just hope he's unselfish enough to rotate on defense properly too instead of stat padding. The big deal is what we gave up to go with Westbrook instead; our entire perimeter defense, the ability to rotate and close out, and role players with a willingness to hustle on both ends of the court day in and day out.
