As a Laker fan, I'd rather have him work on his game the next few summers (develop a right hand and improve his shooting) than spend his time on Team USA. Plus, no need to subject him to possible injury or extra mileage (for these last reasons I'm not overly excited to have Kobe on the team either - I really hope he doesn't over-extend himself).
I'm sure LO would have liked to be invited (pride and ego), but let him use that fuel to drive him to being an all-star. Team comes first. |

I pretty much agree.
An invitation would have just been a reward for his numbers tailing off a
bit these last couple years.
An invitation might go to his head and make him more complacent than
he already is.
Assuming that's possible |

On the other side of this though, I'm sure players all learn a lot from each other by spending so much time practicing against each other. Good way to improve your game. |

agreed, he looked slower coming off the olympic squad before so, if hes going to stay at SF then you should lift weights and work on his jumper like kobe _________________ Kevin Love. 2015. |

I'm with you on that one - 3 summers are too much of a commitment. |

I don't. If Kobe plays well this will fit into his PR re-imaging. Plus it allows him to show his skills on a World Stage. A Gold at the Worlds and Olympics are major accolade he has not yet attained. |

Actually, it might have been better if Lamar were included on the team. He and Kobe could develop an even stronger 1-2 punch with him on the team. Besides I don't know that'll he'll take initiative all on his own to develop his game. |

If Team USA needs him, then he should go. I thought he was the only decent big on Team USA in the 2004 games, which doesn't really say much. If not, I think he should just concentrate on his jumper. |

Odom deserved another shot after his great showing in Athens but it's for the best with all the young talent at his position the league has to offer. I just don't like the thought of Bruce Bowen on the World Championships cuz it makes me wanna |

The idea, I believe, was to come up with the best "team."
I don't think Lamar Odom should be part of any team aspiring to be the "best" or anything close to it. |

Why not? Like you said, it's supposed to be about the "team". Odom is an intangibles guy. He doesn't need to score to put up numbers in rebounding and assists. He'd be perfect for the team concept since he's not selfish and actually likes to pass the ball. Isn't that the definition of "team"? At least be objective, Odom haters. _________________ I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce! |

That would be a fantasy basketball team you're talking about.
In real basketball, players who play good defense and make good decisions in clutch moments are preferred over nice stats.
For that purpose, I'd say Battier helps more than Odom would.
And yes I realize Odom has made a few clutch plays over the course of his career, but anecdotal evidence does not show anything. |

Wait a minute, wait a minute. You're bashing Odom for his defense when you have players like Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Antoine Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas on the roster? These guys aren't exactly known for their defense either.
So basically you're saying that we should hold all the moments Odom wasn't clutch against him, and yet when there is evidence that he has made a few clutch plays shouldn't be considered. Wow, great reasoning there. You'd be a great debater if that were allowed. You take the good with the bad.
Odom is a good team player who is unselfish and willing to do the dirty work. He might not be the greatest scorer, but he'll do the other things that will help the star player shine. So in fact, to have a good "team", you need team players like Odom. _________________ I'm like a Hadouken, down-right Fierce! |
